UPDATE 5:20PM: Highway 50 at Traditions Parkway in Dayton has re-opened.

UPDATE 10:15AM: The Nevada Highway Patrol has confirmed two fatalities in the collision involving a semi and two vehicles Sunday morning on US-50 in Dayton.

NHP has released the following information:

On June 28th, 2026, at approximately 7:14 a.m., The Nevada Highway Patrol, a division of the Nevada State Police, responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on US50 at Segale Rd in Lyon County. This is in Dayton, Nevada.

This is a three-vehicle crash involving a semi and two other vehicles. There are two confirmed fatalities. The fatalities were confirmed on scene by medical personnel.
One patient with life threatening injuries was Care Flighted to a local area hospital.

US-50 is closed in both directions at Segale Road. Traffic is being diverted onto secondary roads around the scene. This closure is expected for the next two to three hours.

UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office are on scene of a fatal collision involving a semi truck and two vehicles that happened Sunday morning at US-50 and Traditions Parkway in Dayton.

The incident was reported as a three vehicle collision involving a semi and two vehicles. There is at least one fatality, said Trooper James LaRose, public information officer for the Nevada Highway Patrol. US-50 is closed in both directions and air ambulances have responded, he said.

The following is a news release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office:

On June 28, 2026, at approximately 7:21 a.m. hours, deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Highway 50 and Traditions Parkway in Dayton, along with personnel from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Central Lyon County Fire Department, and Nevada Department of Transportation, for a report of a major traffic collision.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that a semi-truck had struck two passenger vehicles at the intersection of Highway 50 and Traditions Parkway, causing the closure of Highway 50 in both directions.

Preliminary statements obtained at the scene suggest the driver of the semi may have fallen asleep.

This incident is currently being investigated by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol. Any additional information will be released at their discretion.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office advises that Highway 50 is closed in both directions at Traditions Parkway and that motorists should avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Emergency personnel are on scene, and significant traffic delays and lane closures are expected as the investigation continues, according to a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office social media page.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. We will update as information becomes available.

Another big crash at the Traditions stoplight approximately 07:30AM Sunday, 28 June 2026. A friend of mine was on his way eastbound on Hwy 50 when he was stopped and turned around there by NV DOT. Medivac landing as he was stopped. DOT, NHP FD all on scene. Traffic stopped both directions at this time (0745AM).
