A 25-year-old woman was arrested Saturday on felony charges including burglary and crimes against an elderly person after she allegedly stole a purse belolonging to an 85-year-old woman who was shopping inside Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested was Jacqueline Cunningham of Elko. According to the report, Carson City sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street regarding a larceny in progress.

The officers met with the victim, store manager, Asset Protection Officer and a witness. The witness said Jacqueline Cunningham was following her around the store attempting to take her purse. The store manager and Asset Protection Officer caught the theft of the elderly woman on camera. The tape showed Cunningham following the woman and positioning her cart in order to grab the purse.

The tape showed that as the woman turned her back to select a rotisserie chicken, that is when Cunningham quickly takes her purse and exits the store without paying for the other items in her cart. The suspect then left with her toddler-aged son.

After viewing the tape, the Walmart employees went looking in the parking lot for the suspect. They located her and her son in a parked car rummaging through the purse. The store manager yelled at Cunningham and opened the car door saying that they knew she had stolen the purse. Cunningham dropped the purse out her car window and drove out of the parking lot, the arrest report states.

Deputies located Cunningham’s car and took her into custody. According to the report, she confessed to the theft of the purse and to shoplifting. She faces the following felony charges: burglary, burglary by shoplifting and elderly abuse, exploitation of an elderly victim, 85-years-old. Bail: $47,500.

In other arrests: A 55-year-old Reno man, Dennis Meske, was arrested Saturday at 7:32 p.m. in the 1000 block of Rand Avenue on felony charges of possession of controlled substance, possession with intent to sell, trafficking and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia, possession of an ounce or less of marijuana and failure to obey traffic control signals.

According to the report, an officer was on patrol in the area when the officer observed a vehicle pull into the intersection prior to the light turning green. The officer conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot. After receiving the driver’s license and other documentation, the officer called for backup with a K9 partner.

The K9 sniffed the exterior of the vehicle and alerted, the arrest report states. The officers searched the vehicle and located several unused hypodermic needles, a small bag of a leafy substance and a clear plastic bag of methamphetamine that weighed 5 grams. There were also 20 pills of Hydrocodone, the report states.

After arresting Meske and reading his Miranda Rights, he spoke to the officer saying that all of the drugs were his and confirmed that he did not have a prescription. The way the drugs were packaged and their scale confirmed the controlled substances were packaged for sales, the arrest report states. Bail: $36,969.

— A 30-year-old Carson City woman, Crystal Barham, was arrested Saturday at 7:57 p.m. in the 600 block of North Stewart Street on felony charges of possession of controlled substance and destruction of evidence and three misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia.

An officer went to the location for a knock and talk investigation. When he arrived, he witnessed Barham open the curtains and walk away from the window. After knocking again, a male subject opened the door just as Barham was flushing the toilet and walking out of the bathroom.

The officer began talking to the woman and she said she had flushed a small amount of methamphetamine down the toilet and gave consent for the officers to search the room. In the room, the officers located a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine, several unused needles and two loaded hypodermic devices that later tested positive for methamphetamine. Bail: $8,411.

— A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday at 10:55 p.m. at the corner of Deer Run Road and Brunswick Canyon on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the report, an officer was dispatched to the location in reference to a welfare check. A female had called 911 and said she was pregnant and lost. At the location, a vehicle was pulled off to the side of the road. A man was standing at the side of the vehicle and said the missing female was his girlfriend. The man admitted to being intoxicated and allowed the officer to search his vehicle. On the drivers seat of the car was a jar of marijuana and a pipe. Bail: $1,874.

— A Carson City man was arrested Sunday at 2:24 a.m. on the corner of Fairview and North Edmonds Street on a misdemeanor charge of DUI first offense. Bail: $1,137.

— A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday at 8:10 a.m. in the 2000 block of East Long Street on a misdemeanor charge failure to appear in traffic court. Officers were dispatched to the location to serve a warrant to the subject. Upon arrival the subject confirmed the warrant. Bail: $550.
