Local cyclist and Sierra Lutheran class of 2025 graduate Joshua Fox recently completed an Everest Challenge on Kings Canyon Road on June 7th. An Everest Challenge entails biking multiple laps up a hill until you accumulate over 29,028 ft of climbing.
Sixteen athletes and coaches began riding before dawn and the event lasted well into the evening. Fox was the only athlete to complete the full Everest Challenge, but multiple riders achieved the quarter or half Everest.

Everesting is a very physically and mentally demanding endurance event that requires many hours to complete.
Fox was able bike 52 times up and down Kings Canyon Road to climb over 29,800 ft and travel over 153 miles in a single day.
He started his ride at 3:30AM and finished at 9:30PM that evening, cheered on at the finish by a crowd of coaches and fellow student riders.
Fox will attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO this autumn and race on their Division 1 cycling team.
The Everest Challenge was hosted by Kit Carson Youth Cycling (KCYC).
KCYC provided an aid station staffed by volunteers at the top of Kings Canyon Road to keep the riders fueled and hydrated for the event. KCYC is an organization focused on getting youth to build fitness and friendships through road cycling together in the Carson area.

KCYC is the sister organization to the Senators Cycling mountain bike team, and any local youth interested in riding with us can find more info at http://www.senatorscycling.org/.
In addition, KCYC would like to thank Carson City for the excellent trailhead facilities on Kings Canyon Road as well as all the drivers that day who were cognizant of our cyclists’ safety.
