Carson City cowboy John Buethe Jr. added a state championship to his rodeo season May 25, winning the Nevada State High School Rodeo bareback riding title in Winnemucca during the final day of the state finals at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
For the win, Buethe received a bareback buckle, a saddle and a $1,000 PRCA card, awards that marked his first-place finish in one of the rodeoโs toughest events.
State champions were crowned on the final day of competition after a weeklong run of performances and events in Winnemucca.
The Nevada State High School and Junior High School Finals Rodeo ran May 19โ25, with the Top 15 finals and state champion awards scheduled for May 25 in the main arena.



The week brought together contestants from across Nevada to compete for state titles and a chance to advance from the state stage.
Buethe lives in Carson City and is a member of the Douglas-Carson Rodeo Club.
He also participates in JROTC at Carson High School, is a member of Shepard of the Sierra church, giving his state championship a strong local connection as he continues to represent the capital city in the rodeo arena.
