The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office seeks the public’s help in identifying the person(s) responsible for stealing approximately 4,000 pounds of copper wire from the Buckskin Mine. The theft was discovered on May 5, according to a press statement.

The mine is located in the northeast section of Douglas County, where it borders Lyon County. Access to the mine is made from the Lyon County side of the Pine Nut Mountains, through Mason Valley.

The copper wire, which is insulated with black plastic that bears the print ‘S/O cord’, was rolled up on a large wooden spool. It appears the suspect(s) drug the spool with an ATV, then loaded it onto a truck or other cargo carrier near the Mason Pass Road. It appears the vehicle left in the direction of Lyon County, according to the press statement.

A reward of up to $500 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
