UPDATE: A single vehicle crash on I-580 near Mt. Rose Highway in Reno early Saturday morning took the life of a good samaritan who was struck by a vehicle after stopping to help the driver, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Two drivers have been arrested.

Southbound I-580 is now open after being closed for several hours this morning due to the investigation.

Preliminary information known at this time is the incident happened at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning in the southbound lane of I-580, just south of State Route 431. This crash scene was blocking the number two travel lane.

NHP says a good samaritan witnessed the single vehicle crash and stopped to provide help. During this incident, a vehicle traveling southbound on I-580 entered the crash scene. This vehicle struck the originally crashed vehicle and the good samaritan.

The good samaritan, an adult female, died at the scene, according to medical personnel.

Impairment is suspected of the driver of the originally crashed vehicle and impairment is suspected of the driver of the vehicle that entered and crashed into the original crash.

The driver of the vehicle that originally crashed has been arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail. The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the original crash and Good Samaritan, secondary crash, has also been arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail.
