Storey County Emergency Management, in coordination with the Storey County Fire Protection District and the Storey County Sheriff’s Office, will conduct a wildfire evacuation drill in the Virginia City Highlands on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
To help residents prepare and understand what to expect, an informational Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, May 6, from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Virginia City Highlands Community Center, 2610 Cartwright Road.
The meeting will cover evacuation routes, emergency alerts, and key steps residents can take to stay safe and prepared.
“This drill is an important part of keeping our community safe,” said Adam Wilson, Storey County Emergency Management Director. “Wildfire season is becoming longer and more intense and practicing evacuation procedures ahead of time helps save lives. We want every resident in the Highlands to feel confident and informed before an emergency ever happens.”
Residents are encouraged to attend the Town Hall, participate in the June 14th drill, and take steps now to ensure their families, pets, and properties are prepared for wildfire season.
