A preliminary magnitude 4.8 earthquake happened Wednesday morning at 10:23 a.m., 11 miles southeast of Silver Springs in Lyon County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake was widely felt around the region. The Nevada Seismological Laboratory also reports the earthquake at 4.83 magnitude, with a location of 20 miles north of Yerington followed by more than two dozen aftershocks.
Lyon County advised on social media that this time, impacts are still being assessed and suggested that people who felt shaking:
— Check yourself and others for injuries
— Inspect your home for any damage or hazards
— Be prepared for more possible aftershocks
— Avoid damaged buildings and downed power lines
“We are still actively monitoring the aftershocks we have been having this past week. If you have damage to report or need assistance, contact local authorities, according to Lyon County officials.
