During the month of March 2025, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Southern Command Patrol Division, along with the Yerington Police Department, responded to a series of reported burglaries targeting storage facilities in Smith Valley, Mason Valley and the City of Yerington.

Deputies investigated burglaries at the Smith Valley Stor-All storage units located in the 2000 block of Highway 208 in Smith Valley, as well as at Mohave Storage in the 700 block of Amy Street in Yerington. At the same time, the Yerington Police Department handled multiple burglary reports at other storage unit facilities within the city limits.

On March 31, 2025, LCSO’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted a traffic stop that led to the arrest of Jerady Joseph Smith, a 34-year-old Yerington resident. Smith was initially taken into custody for traffic-related violations and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SIU Detectives later identified Smith as a suspect in the Smith Valley Stor-All burglary, as well as multiple burglaries within the City of Yerington, after it was learned he had pawned some of the stolen items in the Sparks area. Smith has been charged with the following alleged felony offenses:

  • Burglary (multiple counts)
  • Grand Larceny
  • Grand Larceny of a Firearm
  • Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm
  • Destroying and/or Concealing Evidence.

Smith is currently held at the Lyon County Jail with a total bail set at $293,500.

On April 1, 2025, SIU Detectives arrested Joseph Trenton Davis, a 31-year-old Yerington resident, following a traffic stop. Davis had been identified as a suspect in the Mohave Storage burglary case. He now faces multiple alleged felony charges, including:

  • Burglary
  • Grand Larceny
  • Possession of/Receiving Stolen Property
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Davis remains in custody at the Lyon County Jail with bail set at $52,280.

During the investigation into the Mohave Storage burglary, SIU Detectives identified a second suspect: Christian Cox, a 33-year-old Yerington resident and employee of Mohave Storage. Cox was located and arrested on April 1, 2025, and booked into the Lyon County Jail on the following alleged charges:

  • Burglary of a Business
  • Possession of/Receiving Stolen Property

On April 3, 2025, Detectives arrested Lawrence Grimes, a 67-year-old Yerington resident, in connection with the Smith Valley Stor-All and Yerington area burglaries. Grimes was booked on the following alleged charges:

  • Burglary of a Business
  • Possession of/Receiving Stolen Property

Grimes is currently held at the Lyon County Jail with bail set at $15,000. These burglary investigations are active and ongoing. The LCSO Special Investigations Unit is actively working to recover numerous items of stolen property and is working closely with the Yerington and Sparks Police Departments.
