The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Nevada Highway Patrol and regional law enforcement agencies, has announced a high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing speeding on interstates, highways and city streets.
This intensified patrolling effort is currently underway and will continue through the end of March. During this period, deputies and officers will focus specifically on speeding and related traffic violations to ensure the safety of all motorists.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is a primary factor in approximately one-third of all fatal vehicle crashes. High speeds significantly reduce a driver’s reaction time, increase necessary stopping distances, and compromise overall vehicle control.
Most critically, speeding increases the impact force during a collision, often leading to more severe injuries or fatalities.
Speed limits are set by traffic engineers to allow motorists to travel efficiently without compromising safety. We urge all drivers to obey these laws and help us prevent avoidable tragedies on our roads.
This campaign is made possible through funding provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). The Joining Forces grants allow local agencies to increase staffing and resources dedicated specifically to reducing traffic-related deaths and injuries.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and always remain mindful of posted speed limits.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will continue to enforce traffic safety laws and educate the public year-round as part of their commitment to reduce accidents and save lives. Whether you’re the driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways their top priority.
