A low pressure system moving through has brought gusty winds, prompting a Wind Advisory for Carson City and much of the region until 11 p.m. Monday and a chance for rain and snow showers.

Winds will continue to increase becoming stronger this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. Winds are from the southwest, 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 to 60 mph and localized gusts to 65 mph.

The strong winds will create crosswinds on area highways and make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

The weather service advises people to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash cans and have a flashlight and spare batteries on hand in the event of a power outage during the evening hours.

There is a chance of rain before 11 p.m., then snow possible with less than a half an inch by Monday night and a chance of snow showers Tuesday morning, according to the weather service. Go here for a forecast discussion and CarsonWeather.com for Carson City area weather.
