U.S. Army Corporal Dean Poppenga took time to serve lunch with the Nutrition Services team at Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City last week.

The endearing gesture was to show appreciation to students for sending Christmas cards to his entire company while they were stationed at Camp Buehring in Kuwait during the holidays. Poppenga said he taped up all the cards around the crew shack to spread joy to all the service men and women who were deployed there. His mother is Shiree Carter, the kitchen manager at Fritsch Elementary.

Poppenga is a home-grown soldier who graduated from Carson High in 2019.
