UPDATE 1:49PM: Power has been restored for much of Carson Valley and is being restored to neighborhoods around South Lake Tahoe.

NV Energy is reporting widespread power outages Wednesday morning affecting Douglas County and the South Lake Tahoe area.

As of around 8:30 a.m. 26,781 NV Energy customers are without power. At South Lake Tahoe, Liberty Utilities is also reporting an outage affecting the city. The outage has prompted some school closures.

Douglas County has issued the following on social media:

Widespread power outages are affecting customers in Douglas County. The cause is under investigation, and there’s no estimated restoration time yet.
Stay updated via NV Energy’s outage map here. Check on neighbors, especially the elderly.

Call 911 for emergencies only. Do not report the power outage to 911.

Douglas County School District said on its Facebook page that NV Energy said there is an issue at the Buckeye substation and they are actively working to restore power. There is no definitive time frame for the repair work to be finished. The district said that it has canceled all elementary and secondary schools. Lake Tahoe Unified Schools are also closed.
