Snow plows are out in force this Sunday morning around Carson City after a winter storm brought a couple inches of snow to the valley floors. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon today for much of the area while a Winter Storm Warning runs until 4 p.m. for the Sierra.
In Carson City and Carson Valley, Virginia City and Reno and Sparks areas, there will be periods of light to moderate snow through the morning. Snow showers will likely continue through the afternoon.
There’s a chance for around 1 to 3 inches of additional snow on valley floors with 2 to 4 inches above 5,000 feet, according to the weather service.
The snow has created slick conditions due to slushy roads, especially in the higher elevations. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
