Almost two months of closure came to an end Saturday as the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City reopened to the public following water damage caused by January flooding.

The museum closed for repairs after a major atmospheric river storm system slammed Western Nevada in early January, resulting in flood waters on Rhodes and Curry Streets that were diverted onto the Nevada State Railroad Museum property.

The water caused damage to the outside grounds and track areas, as well as the equipment shed where the engine artifacts are housed and the main museum building, too.

The equipment shed remains closed at this time for ongoing repairs, but the main museum building and its indoor exhibits are now open.

Crowds of visitors, including many families, visited the museum Saturday to celebrate the reopening.

Free admission is offered all weekend as part of the reopening celebration.
