UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol shut down I-580 through Washoe Valley from Carson City to Reno on Tuesday afternoon due to strong winds that have caused multiple trucks to overturn.
“It’s a hard close,” said Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Brown, advising motorists can take Eastlake Road to 395 ALT to get through the valley.
Northbound traffic is being diverted at Eastlake Boulevard while southbound traffic is being diverted at Mt. Rose Highway (SR-431).
The closure is expected for several hours.
Reports of at least four incident involving semis were recorded by Nevada State Police website roadhazards.nv.gov at just after noon, 12:30 p.m., 12:31 p.m. and 12:34 p.m. Wind gusts have been more than 60 mph to 70 mph.
