Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, deputies were patrolling in the area of E. William when they began a registration check on a vehicle, which returned with an active warrant for the owner of the vehicle.
The reporting deputy said that after seeing the patrol car, the driver of the vehicle abruptly turned onto Gold Dust Way and pulled into a parking lot. The deputy activated their blue and red lights and instructed the suspect to remain inside the vehicle.
However, the suspect instead exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The deputy said they pursued the man on foot heading into the westside of the parking lot before he ran into a vacant field to the south side of Gold Dust West.
Multiple deputies began a search and followed the man’s fresh footprints in the snow, which led through the field and back toward the parking lot. They located the man’s discarded plaid jacket he was wearing at the beginning of the traffic stop.
They continued to follow the foot steps until deputies successfully apprehended the man, according to the reporting deputy.
The man insisted he had been the individual in the vehicle despite having wet clothes and being out of breath with a red and flushed face, consistent with someone who had “just been partaking in cardiovascular activity,” according to the report. The reporting deputy also positively identified the man as the suspect who had fled the vehicle at the beginning of the foot chase.
Dispatch advised the man also had a revoked driver’s license. While searching his person, deputies found the man was in possession of a debit card that belonged to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Deputies attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle, but they did not answer, and the vehicle was towed. A small dog left inside the vehicle was released to animal control.
Bail: $1,774
