They play rough, but their hearts are in the right place.

On their sleeves.

Carson City’s own Carson Victory Rollers hosted a fundraising roller derby scrimmage Sunday to benefit Carson Tahoe Health Foundation’s Mission Heartbeat program that fights heart disease in the community.

The sporting event raised $517 for the foundation and its campaign to give cardiovascular health a shot in the arm.

“Great scrimmage!” the Carson Victory Rollers wrote on their Facebook page. “Thank you to everyone that came out and donated!”

A crowd of a few dozen filled the bleachers in the Carson Community Center gymnasium to watch the Carson Victory Rollers take on the Sierra Regional Roller Derby team.

The scrimmage kicked off the 2017 season for the Victory Rollers.

The Junior Victory Rollers scrimmaged against the junior Sierra Regional team in the event’s early match-up and the adults went toe-to-toe in the nightcap.
