After periods of clouds and isolated showers this weekend, rain is expected to return to Carson City late Sunday into Monday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports, accompanied by a high wind watch with gusts as high as 45 miles per hour (mph) and sustained winds between 15-25 mph by Monday afternoon.
There is a 30 percent chance of precipitation after 4 p.m. Sunday increasing to 70 percent overnight with before 10 a.m. Monday morning.
Sunday’s high is forecast to reach around 51 degrees, the NWS reports, and the overnight low into Monday morning is expected to be about 34.
Rain Monday will drop off to showers late with a 30-40 percent chance through Tuesday, the NWS reports. Monday’s high temperature is only expected to reach around 44 degrees.
Precipitation in the mountains will come in the form of snow Sunday into Monday.
A second atmospheric river system moves in late Tuesday into Wednesday, though, raising the snow levels to almost 9,000 feet and increasing the risks of flooding to streams and poor drainage areas.
“The main concerns and impacts with this storm will occur later Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night, when the peak rainfall intensity is accompanied with snow levels rising to near 8,500-9,000 feet,” the NWS reports.
The third in a series of storms this week is forecast to arrive Thursday into Friday, but is not expected to be as strong as the one at mid-week, the NWS reports.
A chance of rain persists in the region through next week, the NWS said, with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid-50s. Overnight lows are forecast to drop only into the upper 30s.
