Super Bowl Sunday is coming up and as always there will be celebrations and parties throughout the country. Here in Carson City there will also be many places where you and your friends will meet to watch the game and cheer on your favorite team.

Also present will be plenty of food and for many of you, adult beverages. During events such as these, people have a tendency to over indulge and lose track of just how much alcohol they have consumed.

Now is a good time to designate a driver or arrange for a taxi to get you to and from your game viewing location to avoid a possible DUI or worse yet a motor vehicle crash. Thinking about walking home intoxicated? Not a good idea, an intoxicated pedestrian may stumble into the roadway, cross the street where there is no crosswalk or simply pass out in the road.

Rivalry is one thing we see during this game. Most of it is fun banter between your team and the opposing team’s fans. Alcohol affects ones decision making abilities which can lead to situations where arguments begin that can turn violent.

As many of you will be with friends, look out for one another and be the voice of reason, help diffuse situations which can lead to violence. Enjoy the game and remember to drink responsibly.
