Northern Nevada valleys and the Lake Tahoe Basin received a blanket of light snow overnight, prompting chain controls over Sierra mountain passes including Kingsbury, Spooner, Donner and Mt. Rose.

A Winter Weather Advisory continues through at 4 p.m. Sunday for the greater Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley area, Lyon County, the Tahoe Basin, Mineral and Mono counties.

Colder temperatures and light snow is expected to continue through Sunday afternoon. Another 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected for the lower valleys and up to 3 inches possible for the mountains around Lake Tahoe. Snow will taper off early Monday, followed by dry conditions, valley inversion, light winds and colder morning temperatures through mid week, forecasters said.
