Nevada parole and probation officers conducted Operation Safer Streets this weekend, a compliance sweep of high risk criminal offenders that resulted in five arrests throughout Carson City, Reno, Sparks and Washoe County.

Operation Safer Streets focused on contacting these offenders at their place of residence and involved the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation and the Regional Gang Unit, said Capt. David Helgerman.

Offenders considered as ‘high-risk’ were selected as those with lengthy criminal records, gang members, house arrest participants, registered sex offenders and Nevada Department of Corrections inmates placed on conditionally released programs.

Over the course of the two day operation, the agencies conducted 97 home contacts and five offenders were arrested for being in violation of their community supervision, Helgerman said.

The operation was considered to be a success and made possible through funding provided by Justice Assistance Grant to support the Division. Furthermore, the Division’s commitment will not end with this joint operation as we will continue to work together with our law enforcement partners conducting similar operations year-round.
