Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal Dec. 18, crash that killed one person and injured another on Highway 50 near Stagecoach in Lyon County.

At approximately 6 p.m., the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division responded to a crash at the location of US-50 and Apache Drive in Lyon County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2015 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on US50 in the number one travel lane approaching the intersection with Apache Drive and slowed down in an attempt to turn around.

A 2000 Honda Accord with two occupants was traveling westbound on US-50 in the number one travel lane approaching the Toyota Tacoma. For reasons not confirmed at this time, the Honda Accord struck the rear of the Toyota Tacoma, and the Honda Accord overturned, according to NHP.

One occupant of the Honda Accord was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office pending next-of-kin notification, according to NHP.

One occupant of the Honda Accord was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma remained on scene and is cooperating with law enforcement, according to NHP.

The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Region 2 (Northern Command) Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating this crash.
