It’s slow going out there on the highways and roads around Carson City this morning with freezing fog and early morning snow showers. The National Weather Service in Reno says the fog will stick around this morning and has issued a freezing fog weather advisory.
Areas most affected are Highway 395 from Susanville to Reno, I-80 and Highways 50 and 95A between the Reno and Carson City areas to Lovelock and Fallon.
Another storm system is on the way for the region today and tonight. There’s a Winter Weather Advisory for the Lake Tahoe region associated with this system, with 4 to 8 inches of snow possible above 7,000 feet. The highest amounts are expected along and west of Highway 89, according to the weather service.
If venturing out Wednesday, check the latest road conditions from CALTRANS and/or NDOT as chains or snow tire requirements are likely in the Sierra and for portions of northeast California. Be prepared for travel delays and allow plenty of time to reach your destination if traveling in eastern California on Wednesday or Wednesday night.
