The Carson City Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for the position of Justice of the Peace / Municipal Court Judge for Department 2. This application process is to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Kristin Luis to the First Judicial District Court, Department 2.
Applications will be available for downloading from the City’s web site at www.carson.org/JOP or may be obtained in person from the Executive Offices at 201 N. Carson Street, Suite 2, Carson City, Nevada. Application Packets are due by Friday, January 19, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. and must be submitted online at www.carson.org/JOP or delivered to the Executive Office at the address above. Applications delivered beyond the application deadline will not be considered. Complete details and instructions are included in the application packet.
The qualifications to be a candidate are established by Nevada Revised Statutes (“NRS”) 4.010 which states that a Justice of the Peace for Carson City must:
• Be a qualified elector; and
• Never been removed or retired from any judicial office by the Commission on Judicial Discipline; and
• Have a high school diploma or its equivalent as determined by the State Board of Education; and
• Reside in Carson City.
The successful appointee will serve until January 5, 2025, unless elected to the office on November 5, 2024, for the following six-year term starting January 6, 2025.
The base pay for the Justice of the Peace / Municipal Court Judge is $145,000 per year.
All potential candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Supervisors on February 1, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., in the Robert “Bob” Crowell Board Room at the Community Center located at 851 East William Street, Carson City, Nevada. Interviews will be conducted in an open, public meeting.
