Keeping kids in school and performing better with on-line learning
Acknowledging that Carson City Schools lose many students for many reasons, Carson City School Board Trustees approved a plan Tuesday night that will put potential drop-outs in front of computers so they can make up for lost time in the classroom. The new on-line lesson plans will be offered first to Pioneer High School students who have fallen behind in their studies. School District staff said on-line instruction, with supplemental help from teachers, has a proven track record of success across the country.
School curriculum chief Sue Keema says the on-line service will initially serve Pioneer High students first. Then next school year, the program will serve the rest of the school population as well as the district’s evening adult education students. Students will receive enhanced on-line learning to help them catch back up with their fellow students on credits needed to graduate from high school as well as helping younger students improve and eventually master basic learning skills.
