Bella Voce and Orfeo
It is that time of year again! Spring has sprung, Bella Voce and Orfeo are ready to shrare a bushel of new, as well as familiar, music with our devoted fans!
The concert is entitled: Faith, Hope and Laughter and includes all aspects of those emotions.
We again will be joined by the men of Orfeo, now in our second season. Having this brother organization allows me to program exceptional works for each choir individually, but a new exciting result of this is that we are able to perform SATB pieces, for men and women’s voices.
Our concert is Sunday, May 13, 4:00 pm at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
This concert will not only feature a new work written for Bella Voce to exclusively premiere, but also 2 other works as a part of a multi-choir “commission consortium” that Bella Voce has joined. The American Choral Directors Association has brought together women’s choruses from across the country to commission several new works, and we will premiere 2 of them as well!
The music Bella Voce will be performing celebrates all joys of life – Hat’s off to Women! is a Haitian Creole text celebrating the roles women have played through history. We sing “Song of Ruth” celebrating the beauty of relationships that are unfailing. We also sing about the power of music to change lives in “Ripple Effect”. We will feature a student conducting intern, Rose Reynolds, on this concert as well. Rose is a Music Education student at UNR and we have had a wonderful time learning from each other.
Orfeo’s selections are full of history – Greig’s “Brother’s, sing On!” through Leonard Bernstein’s “Dream with Me”.
