The V&T Railroad played an important role in Nevada's suffrage history. It delivered VIP eastern suffragists to Carson City to discuss suffrage with Governor Boyle in 1916, and it ferried ardent Nevada suffragists from Reno to Carson City to participate in Governor Boyle's signing of our nations 19th Suffrage Amendment ratification on February 7, 1920.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Carson River railbike tours begin Saturday packed with thrills for all to enjoy, and Virginia City is hosting several exciting events throughout the weekend. All aboard for a unique ride on the rails. Visit Carson City, in partnership with the V&T Railway Commission, have announced an all-new attraction unlike any other in northern Nevada. It’s not a train, it’s not a bike, but it is the Carson Canyon Railbike Tours.

Explore Carson City’s newest attraction at the V&T Railway Eastgate Depot, rail bikes. These “Made in America” rail bikes are innovative, and easy-to-peddle. Individuals, families or friend groups can easily access the breathtaking beauty of Carson River Canyon and with comfort.

Celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with a historic steam train ride from Virginia City to Gold Hill in our beautifully restored outdoor cars with social distancing, powered by 100-year-old heritage locomotives.

According to Storey County Commissioner Jay Carmona the fireworks show in Virginia City has been canceled today as of 1 p.m. The Cruise will be continuing as planned.

According to Carmona, there was an issue with releasing the cancellation announcement but the fireworks are indeed cancelled this year.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region for all to enjoy. New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada are in effect Friday, so make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing to local events.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will take place Thursday May 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

In light of current directives from the Governor related to health concerns, many facilities are closed, leaving few options for exercise and recreation. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department reports that an unprecedented number of people are utilizing Carson City’s more than 8,000 acres of parks, trails and open space. Trailhead parking in some locations is over capacity.

The Waterfall trailhead on Kings Canyon Road is experiencing especially large numbers of visitors, resulting in traffic congestion and parking related issues.

Heading into Thursday, happenings lined up include a monthly meeting of the Carson City Native and Newcomers, a preserving history workshop through the Nevada State Archives, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, an introduction into improv comedy at the Brewery Arts Center, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more. CARSON CITY — On the heels of an incredibly successful 2019 season and due to popular demand, V&T Railway has begun early ticket sale booking for the 2020 season. As with prior seasons, the 2020 season will include vintage steam train rides from Carson City to Virginia City, Toast of the Canyon wine and beer trains and the popular Polar Express in addition to other themed and special event trains.

The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Heading into Thursday, sunshine and a gradual warming continues. Happenings around the capital city include a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a Muscle Powered hike along the V&T trail, library activities, Pilates at the Brewery Arts Center and for your music pleasure, roots raconteur Ray Bonneville will perform at the Silver City Schoolhouse with Richie Lawrence.

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

Please help save Adele’s building in Carson City, Nev. There was great pride in our city when the Captain Porter’s House, now Adele’s, was first built. A quote from the newspaper is as follows:

The Carson City Historical Society Board held an emergency meeting on Dec. 21 to discuss the eminent demolition of Adele’s, and strategized on how this historic building could be preserved.

The board voted to pursue a fund raising campaign to work with the community to preserve the 155 year-old Adele’s building at 1112 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nev.

Santa Claus is making his last stop today, Christmas Eve, at the V&T Railway in East Carson City. He will be inside the gift shop until 6:30 p.m. The V&T Railway is located at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Go here for directions and a map. This is one of the last stops to get photos of kids and Santa Claus today in the Carson City area.

A Carson City family estate presented checks to three organizations on Wednesday amounting to more than $600,000.

In the spirit of giving and the Christmas holidays ahead, three organizations will receive generous donations amounting to more than $500,000 in memory of Frances M. Parker, a longtime Carson City resident and former owner of the Crossroads Lounge.
