Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 08/29/2020 - 7:35amFinalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,858 for the week ending August 22, down 2,080 claims, or 19.0 percent, compared to last week’s total of 10,938 claims.
This is the fewest initial claims filed since the week ending March 14. Through the week ending August 22, there have been 662,510 initial claims filed in 2020, 640,716 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

Through the week ending August 15, there have been 653,510 initial claims filed in 2020, 631,858 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.
DETR: Unemployment Rate Improves; Employment Adds Jobs Back for Third Month Straight in July
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Wed, 08/19/2020 - 2:58pmAccording to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) July 2020 economic report, employment in Nevada realized an increase of 14,800 jobs over the month and saw a decrease of -138,700 jobs since July 2019, or -9.8%.
The total employment level in the State is 1,281,100. The state’s unemployment rate is 14% this month, down 1.2 percentage point from June but up 10.1 percentage point when compared to July 2019.

This is the first decline in weekly initial claims since week ending June 20. Through the week ending August 1, there have been 624,817 initial claims filed in 2020, 603,165 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

This is the fourth consecutive week of increases in regular initial claims. Through the week ending July 18, there have been 592,700 initial claims filed in 2020, 571,048 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR employee tests positive for COVID-19, Carson City call center to handle southern Nevada claims
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/13/2020 - 5:45amThe Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation was made aware of positive COVID-19 case in the Las Vegas unemployment insurance call center on Saturday, July 11.
Upon learning of the positive result, the call center was immediately closed and remediation efforts began as set forth by state and CDC protocols. The employee is self-quarantined, and there is no immediate exposure risk to the public as the facility has been closed to the public since mid-March.
