CARSON CITY — Gov. Steve Sisolak, the Nevada State Treasurer’s Office and the Governor’s Office of Economic of Development announced Wednesday an additional infusion of $20 million in to the Pandemic Emergency Technical Support (PETS) grant program, which opened for applicants on Monday.

Partnership Carson City, founded to develop a healthy community, is now offering its popular Wellness Yoga classes in-person, while continuing to offer the online virtual option. Under the newest safety guidelines, and due to space limitations, the in-person class now accommodates 10 people and advance registration is required.

The teachers of CHS are asking if this is still true? Of course it is. Men, women, and children of Carson City are encouraged to purchase a T-shirt to support both breast cancer awareness and CHS teacher Kelly Gustafson, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Carson invites the community to join a free webinar on Thursday, October 29 from 10 to 11 a.m., led by Eldercare Counselor Laura Vaillancourt, MA, LMHC, GMHS. The engaging online discussion will focus on understanding the symptoms of depression in seniors and how families can support these individuals.

Chugg came to The Nevada Humane Society in Carson City on the 29th of September, 2020 when he was found as an injured stray.  

They have doctored this shy but sweet boy up and he is ready to find his forever home.  

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Fall-themed train rides from the Virginia Truckee Railroad Company and the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be available on Saturday and Sunday. A virtual “Light After Dark” fitness event will be held on Saturday to support the Carson City-based Advocated to End Domestic Violence program. Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Wednesday details for a new $20 million grant program aimed at helping small businesses and non-profit organizations that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, Carson City Toyota will host the second “Drive by Donation” Food Drive to benefit Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, which gives support to families and people in need by providing food, instruction, shelter and health care.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West has received a grant in the amount of $115,000 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement’s participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.

CARSON CITY — The global pandemic has proven challenging to businesses and organizations across the state, country and world. Many local school districts cannot find people to fill open positions including transportation, custodial, nutrition, nursing, paraprofessionals and crossing guards. Many are struggling to even maintain enough substitute teachers.

Browsers Corner Book Store, operated by the Friends of the Carson City Library, is having its grand reopening starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 with new hours being from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

The First Judicial Court Felony DUI Program announced Monday it has received $22,250 in grant funding for the 2020-2021 fiscal year from Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has received a $43,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support the Sheriff’s Office participation in Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the entire Carson Tahoe Health system, including the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Carson Tahoe Medical Group, and all other outlying locations, launched Epic — a highly regarded and well-utilized medical records system.

Recognizing the cultural and economic impact the arts community makes in the Silver State, Gov. Steve Sisolak has proclaimed October to be Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada.

Arts and humanities strengthen the Nevada economy by generating $8.7 billion in total economic activity annually and by supporting more than 40,900 Nevada workers, according to data from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency that works to make the arts accessible to all Nevadans. Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th, have been designated “White Cane Days” by the Carson City Host Lions Club.

Lions will be available at the North Carson Street Save Mart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to bring awareness to the public of the sight preservation programs the Lions support, and to raise funds as part of the annual White Cane Days.

The Carson High School Retro-Homecoming and Respect Week went without a hitch, and the beauty of it was administrators, teachers, and staff had nothing whatsoever to do with making the decisions as the students chose both the candidates and the winners.

This Sunday, Oct. 4, Biden supporters in Northern Nevada will be #RaftingForBiden along the Truckee River. Supporters have organized this socially distant outdoor event to show support for the Vice President and Senator Harris and to register volunteers for the campaign.
