Nonprofits greenUP! and Friends In Service Helping (FISH) are coming together around the topic of food waste and food insecurity this holiday season. It is estimated that a staggering 30-40 percent of all food produced in our country winds up in the landfill.

One solution for reducing waste is to donate extra food to feed the hungry: despite the high volumes of wasted food, over 13 million Americans lack regular access to a meal.

In our state, it is estimated by the Department of Health and Human Services that one in eight Nevadans does not know where their next meal is coming from.

While this year’s safe and sober celebrations may look different, Partnership Carson City, in collaboration with Carson City Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers, is encouraging students to celebrate safety and responsibly this New Year’s Eve by offering gift cards as a token of appreciation.

Clint Koble, Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture's Nevada Rural Development Council in the Obama administration, will be the featured speaker at next Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. The topic of his presentation will be “Rebuilding Rural America” — a set of policy proposals he developed based on a lifetime in public life and on his own experience as a product of rural America, having been born and raised on a farm in North Dakota.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 that there are 2 additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. We are also reporting 277 new cases and 70 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,986, with 3,548 recoveries and 81 deaths; 4,357 cases remain active.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The teachers to be recognized earning certification are Patricia Ababio, Graphic Arts teacher in the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High School, and Rhonda Holloway, English teacher at Carson Middle School.

CARSON CITY — Employment in Nevada increased over the month by 9,200 jobs as the State continues to recover. Jobs remain below typical levels; Nevada has 109,500 fewer jobs than in November 2019, for an annual job growth rate of -7.7 percent according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s November 2020 economic report.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 that there are 168 new cases and 39 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,709, with 3,478 recoveries and 79 deaths; 4,152 cases remain active.

A three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously Tuesday in favor of a Lyon County church that argued Gov. Steve Sisolak's pandemic restrictions on places of worship were a violation of the First Amendment, reversing a lower court's ruling and prohibiting Sisolak from imposing further restrictions on churches.

As the risk for COVID-19 transmission continues to increase, Carson City Health and Human Services is encouraging residents to avoid attending or hosting holiday celebrations with those outside of your household and utilizing lower risk activities to celebrate the holiday with those outside of your household.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020 that there are 7 additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. We are also reporting 77 new cases and 20 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,541, with 3,439 recoveries and 79 deaths; 4,023 cases remain active.

Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is underway within the state of Nevada, including our local communities in the north. Those who are first up to receive the vaccine include health care personnel and long term care facilities as a part of the first phase of Tier 1 distribution.

The first batch of initial COVID-19 vaccines has reached Carson City, and was received by Carson Tahoe Health Tuesday morning.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 that there are 157 new cases and 32 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,464, with 3,973 recoveries and 72 deaths; 3,973 cases remain active.

NV Energy is alerting customers of a scam involving a person or persons who are calling both business and residential customers, falsely identifying themselves as utility company employees and making deceptive threats about their electric service, demanding immediate payment.

Carson City Health and Human Services reported Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020 that there are 155 new cases and 27 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,307, with 3,3387 recoveries and 72 deaths; 3,848 cases remain active.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 that there are 4 additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. We are also reporting 208 new cases and 30 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,152, with 3,3360 recoveries and 72 deaths; 3,720 cases remain active.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

In our region, as well as in many areas across the country, there have been massive spikes in COVID-19 transmissions over the past few months. Even as restaurants and bars were reopened, daily positive cases were generally staying within single digits inside the Quad-County region.

However, between October and December, both test positivity rates as well as overall cases — and deaths — have seen a massive increase. Local health organizations are now not only fighting against the disease, but against misinformation campaigns as well.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020 that there are 9 additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. We are also reporting 308 new cases and 164 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 6,777, with 3,312 recoveries and 68 deaths; 3,397 cases remain active.

KTVN will host its annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive this Friday, Dec. 11 with food drop-off locations in Carson City, Minden and Reno beginning at 6 a.m. and running until 6 p.m.

Two Carson City leaders have teamed up to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and provide information on how families can protect themselves and others during the holidays.

In addition to being available by phone and online, the Carson City Library and staff remain committed to delivering its services to the local community through a variety of avenues. While currently closed to the public, the library is completing upgrades and installations to enable vulnerable populations to continue to safely access library collections.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 that there are 49 new cases and 62 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 6,469, with 3,148 recoveries and 59 deaths; 3,262 cases remain active.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health is expanding the capabilities of the COVID Trace app by launching Exposure Notification Express through a partnership with Apple and Google.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020 that there is an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a male Douglas County resident in his 80’s. CCHHS is also reporting 402 new cases and 6 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, Dec. 7, 2020 that there are two additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individuals were a male Carson City resident in his 90s and a male Lyon County resident in his 70s.

Nevada is set to receive more than 164,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine throughout the month that will be used for hospital staff, skilled nursing facility staff and residents, and other Tier One individuals as outlined in the state's COVID-19 Vaccination Program Playbook, according to state health officials.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 that there are 143 new cases and 18 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 5,869, with 3,048 recoveries and 56 deaths; 2,765 cases remain active.
