Tahoe traffic reminder: No roadside parking on State Route 28 Incline to Sand Harbor

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada Highway Patrol are reminding drivers that roadside parking restrictions will continue to be strictly enforced on State Route 28 south of Incline Village when the Tahoe East Shore Trail opens on Friday, June 28, including new no parking areas in southern Incline Village.

The Epic Rides Off-Road Series is a nationally recognized mountain bike festival featuring endurance racing, music, biking exhibitions and more. The City entered into a five-year agreement with Epic Rides and the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority regarding the Carson City Off-Road event to be held the third weekend of each June.

Carson City Elks and Lions clubs honor U.S. Flag Day with ceremony, Girl Scout presentation

Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 held its annual Flag Day ceremony on June 14 together with several other community involved organizations.

The Carson City Host Lions Club, which is the oldest service club in Carson City, presented the U.S. flags and brochures explaining facts about the flag to all the attendees at the Elks Flag Day Ceremony.

Capital City CIRCLES Initiative to host substance abuse prevention night

Big changes ahead at Catmandu in Carson City

Catmandu in Carson City is scaling its cat and kitten services back a bit.

Executive director Linda Buchanan was recently diagnosed with Behcet’s Disease, a rare auto-immune disorder after two years of strange symptoms and increasingly poor health. Although Behcet’s disease is not considered life-threatening, it requires a significant reduction of work and stress to keep the disease contained.

What season is this? First day of summer to arrive with temperatures in the low 70s

The first day of summer Friday will seem more like a typical spring day as sunshine and relatively cool temperatures are expected in the Carson City area, with even cooler overnight temperatures at Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.

Americorps Volunteers are Summertime Mentors at Boys and Girls Clubs

An Americorps National Civilian Community Corps Team, Green Four, will be working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley to mentor children enrolled in its summer program.

During the team’s six week engagement, the seven young adults will serve over 150 children spread between the Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Boys and Girls Club sites.

Earthquakes in Sun Valley, Washoe Valley serve as reminder that Nevada is seismically active

RENO — An ongoing sequence of more than 60 small earthquakes that began in the early morning hours today is centered in the Sun Valley area – they are too small to be felt. But, more than 1,200 people filed “felt reports” following the magnitude 3.7 earthquake in Washoe Valley the night of June 6. The shaking is a gentle reminder that Nevadans live in the third most seismically active state in the nation, behind Alaska and California.

Nevada continues to add jobs in May, unemployment holds steady at 4 percent

CARSON CITY — May employment in Nevada increased by 5,900 jobs over the month and is up 55,200 over the year while the state’s unemployment rate at 4 percent, remained unchanged from April, and is down 0.6 percentage point compared to May 2018, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Wilson Wins President’s Cup at Silver Oak

Dan Wilson is the President’s Cup champion after shooting a combined three under after the second round June 9 of the Silver Oak Golf Course Sunday Men’s Club in Carson City.

The President’s Cup takes the best scores from each hole over two rounds for gross and net winners. The low net (after handicap is applied) over the field was Ryan Balik at 17 under.
