Senator Square: CHS Marching Band wins Nevada Day Battle of the Bands

They received the caption for "Outstanding Music." This award marks the first time in nine years that the marching band took home a first place trophy in a field show competition. Way to Go Big Blue Thunder!

For the first forum, ballot issues will be presented. Ballot issues will be addressed by presenters stating the positive and the negative for each item. Issues to be covered include the Mining Tax and Education Initiative, also known as the Margins Tax, and the Question 1 Appellate Court issue.

Carson City, Secretary of State websites to report up-to-the-minute primary election results

The comprehensive reporting website allows the public to easily monitor the official results as reported by election officials statewide throughout the evening of the election.
For the local Carson City election, results can be found on the Carson City Election Office website here and on CarsonNow.org. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. Election results will begin to filter in after 7 p.m. first with the results from early voting.

This in reply to Mr. James O. Hartman’s letter to the editor in the May 21st issue of the RC. Mr. Hartman, I will address you in the first person in this reply. Facts are stubborn things.
Let me be clear that I draw a parallel to your reporting in the RC opinion page with what in the 30’s was called yellow journalism. Use of the journalism in the same sentence with your name does a disservice to journalists everywhere even those in the mainstream.

Nevada Increases Election Performance Score
Submitted by editor on Wed, 04/09/2014 - 7:04amCarson City – Nevada is one of only seven states to raise its overall Election Performance Index average by more than 10 percentage points, and is the most improved in the nation in the rate of military and overseas ballots returned, according to the PEW Charitable Trusts’ EPI study released today. Nevada’s performance ranking leaped from 22nd to 5th between the 2008 and 2012 elections, putting it in the top 10 percent of states.

Twelve of the 14 voting members of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's governing board voted in favor of the new plan, with one member voting against it and another abstaining, according to TRPA spokesman Jeff Cowan.
Business interests say the plan is an overdue overhaul of regulations that will jump-start Tahoe's tourism economy while also protecting its environment.

A civil lawsuit filed late Friday by Secretary of State Ross Miller claims the group founded by billionaires Charles and David Koch engaged in "express advocacy" against Kelvin Atkinson, a state Senate candidate who won both the June primary and November general election.

There was an expected rush early when the polls opened, with 1,300 voters making it to the Carson City Community Center before 10 a.m., said Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover. Otherwise turnout has been as expected: No long waits. No crowding.

According to Secretary Miller, Nevada registered voters total slightly more than one and a half million. The breakdown is approximately 42% Democrat, 34% Republican and 24% Others. For either major party to win it requires a substantial percentage of independent or unaffiliated voters unless some voters fail to cast their ballots.
