2019 Ironhorse Rail Camp brings training, in-depth courses on trains and railroads in Carson City

The 2019 Ironhorse Rail Camp’s four-day course on train safety and railroad operations is quite the ride at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

From June 13-16, course attendees explore the basic tasks and operations such as railroad and train safety, specific positions on the train crew and the various railroad equipment used during the 20th century.

Nevada Lore Series: The haunting of Carson City’s famed Bliss Mansion

The Bliss Mansion, which still stands today directly across from the Governor’s mansion, was built by millionaire Duane L. Bliss in 1879 and was the most lavish and elaborate home built in Carson City at the time. Some say its dutiful owner still walks the grounds, keeping an eye on his beloved masterpiece.

New railroad terminal manager to lead operations at Fernley facility

CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Tuesday on behalf of Black Gold Terminals: Northern Nevada, a subsidiary of Blacklands Railroad, that Drew Roschli is the new Terminal Manager for its transloading and storage terminal at the Northern Nevada Railport & Logistics Center in Fernley.

It seems somehow appropriate that snow was falling in Virginia City on the morning of Monday, April 16, as crews from the Nevada State Railroad Museum and Comstock Historic Center prepared the Virginia & Truckee Railroad locomotive “Dayton” for its return trip to Carson City.

Overhaul planned for Battle Born Hall museum exhibit at Nevada State Capitol

CARSON CITY — Battle Born Hall, the museum exhibit inside the old Senate chambers on the second floor of the Nevada State Capitol, is closing its doors Nov. 1 for a major renovation.
