South Lake Tahoe man found guilty of threatening judges, police officers, public officials

The man who has led anti-South Lake Tahoe Police, El Dorado County Sheriff, District Attorney and Judge campaigns was found guilty on Monday in Sacramento Superior Court on eight felony charges.

The World Gets Safer Every Day

We were again reminded this week that ignorance can breed misunderstanding and occasionally violence.

We were deeply saddened by the senseless murder of five police officers in Dallas. The young shooter, an African-American, claimed outrage over several earlier shootings of black men by police officers elsewhere. He had no known connections to these men, nor to the police officers he shot.

His motive was based on a logical fallacy to which too many people fall prey.

Fallen Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Carl Howell is among 123 police officers who died in the line of duty in 2015. Today (Friday) beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, there will be a candle light vigil — United By Light — at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to honor the law officers who died.

FBI offers $10,000 reward for arrest and conviction of Alexander Morfin

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Alexander Morfin, 26, of Modesto who is considered armed and dangerous. Morfin may be in Nevada, California or Mexico, according to the FBI. He is wanted for his alleged involvement in the 2008 murder of Victor Gaona, 37, of Modesto, Calif.

Morfin is a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He stands 5 feet, ten inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds.

Slain Vegas officers to be honored in Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony

Two Las Vegas Metro police officers shot and killed in an ambush while eating lunch at a pizza restaurant June 8, 2014 will be honored in a memorial on Thursday, May 7, at the 18th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony held on the Capitol grounds in Carson City.

The service will honor Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo, among the 128 Nevada Peace Officers that have been killed in the line of duty. In 1998, the memorial was dedicated on the Capitol grounds to recognize the ultimate sacrifice these officers made in service of their communities.
