Clint Koble, Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture's Nevada Rural Development Council in the Obama administration, will be the featured speaker at next Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. The topic of his presentation will be “Rebuilding Rural America” — a set of policy proposals he developed based on a lifetime in public life and on his own experience as a product of rural America, having been born and raised on a farm in North Dakota.

Clint Koble, a Democratic primary candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, will be the featured speaker at the next Democratic luncheon. Koble was also the CD2 Democratic candidate in 2018.

Featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Benjamin Challinor, Nevada state director of Julián For The Future, Julián Castro's presidential campaign. A veteran of Hillary for America's Reno organizing efforts in 2016, Challinor was most recently Chief of Staff for Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, and before that served as campaign manager for State Senator Julia Ratti. Assisting him will be Julián For The Future Regional Organizing Director Megan Joy Macias.

Swathed in an elegant suit of red, white and blue and enveloped by a huge crowd of the same beautiful hues, President Donald J. Trump announced his re-election campaign Tuesday night.

After reviewing the failures and treachery of his opposition and the Fake News, he counted at length the accomplishments of the American people and his administration. He ushered in the summer of our politics, economy and culture and outlined the challenges we face and how we will Keep America Great.

Recently, President Donald Trump revoked the security clearance of former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan, who now works as a pundit for MSNBC.

People can argue the politics of this decision until they’re blue (or red) in the face. The larger issue is: Why would anyone still retain a security clearance after leaving a government position in which they were granted that status?

Following the financial crisis of 2008, the Obama administration passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street and Consumer Protection Act which, in an effort to clean up the mortgage industry, imposed stricter regulations around lending. The legislation completely changed the mortgage industry and made it much more challenging to secure a loan.

Two recent news stories caught our attention, and they suggest some good news, but ...

First, the estimated growth rate of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) – that is, the annual rate of growth for America’s economy – was revised upward to 3.1 percent for the second quarter of 2017.

Second, the Trump Administration has eliminated 16 regulations for every regulation it has implemented.

Arizona’s United States Senator John McCain has been a difficult Republican for libertarian limited-government conservatives like us to embrace. Often, we stand opposite him on important issues of the day. He is too lacking in overarching principle for our taste. James has called on him to retire and actually sided with his Republican primary opponents in 2010 and 2016.
Yet, today we are sad.

As I write this article, the Electoral College is deciding the route of the American Presidency and of Donald Trump as President-Elect. The Russian ambassador has been shot and killed in Turkey by a fanatic. Another European terrorist attack has taken place in Berlin, Germany, killing at least 12 people and wounding dozens of others during the Christmas shopping season. Back in Aleppo, Syria, the Assad government is finishing off the horrific killings of its own people as well as rescue helpers and hundreds of Christians — many of whom are women and children.

Nevada has been picked as finalist to host the Department of Energy’s new Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal laboratory, Sen. Harry Reid announced Wednesday.

As most of my readers know when it comes to politics I am a registered Independent. Most other Independents that I spend time around are individual thinkers who appreciate space and time to make up their minds before voting They are not party hardliners as are many Democrats and Republicans. Most Independents that I actually have met several times and waded into great exchanges of political conversation with struck me as voters who are very careful giving their vote to anyone.

Nearly everyone, it seems, has been focused lately on Donald Trump’s nomination by the Republicans and now the chaos of the Democrat convention. We want to celebrate some other important aspects of the GOP convention (where Ron was a delegate) as reflected in speeches by Paul Ryan, Scott Walker and Mike Pence.

We just completed National Pollinator Week, a designation that recognizes all that pollinators do for our food supply, environment and economy. Last year the Obama administration released a “National Strategy to Promote the Health of Honey Bees and Other Pollinators” led by U.S. Department of Agriculture.

No one should have to fight blindly against the enemy — knowledge IS power, and the truth of any situation even more powerful. No one has ever had all the facts for a set of circumstances or a certain situation, only God has the entire picture, so human expertise has its limitations. However, gathering as many facts as possible, organizing them in a logical progression, studying them carefully, looking for strengths and weaknesses, can ultimately bring together a rather comprehensive picture for all to see.

“No pain, no gain!” For years, exercise buffs have encouraged people to hit the gym with this phrase.
Would as many have been eager to get off the couch if the rallying cry had been, “All pain, no gain”?

As fathers, we teach our children to assume most folks are good and to begin relationships by extending respect, friendship and generosity unless they have clear reasons to do otherwise. As relationships progress, they should respond to others in ways reflecting the accumulated mix of good and bad a person has demonstrated.
