The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating a missing person. Frank Figearo was last seen in mid-October 2020, leaving his motel room in Carson City, Nevada. Mr. Figearo allegedly told a neighbor he was traveling out of state for business.

UPDATE: Heading into the Christmas holiday weekend, the weather pattern for the Carson City region is expected to change beginning Christmas Day with periods of rain, snow and gusty winds into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 that there are 6 additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. We are also reporting 104 new cases and 75 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 8,567, with 3,970 recoveries and 103 deaths; 4,494 cases remain active.

This December, dozens of Bently Nevada employees came together once more to support local families in need through the Adopt a Family Program.

Carson City employment figures for November remained unchanged since October 2020 with the trade, transportation, and utilities sector growing the most by 100 jobs, according to a Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation monthly employment report.

This holiday season, The Salvation Army’s Del Oro Division, which covers Northern Nevada and Northern California, has raised $800,000 less with its iconic Red Kettle Campaign compared to last year. In 2019, the nonprofit brought in $2.4 million to support Christmas assistance and fund programs throughout the year. So far this year, The Salvation Army has brought in just over $1.6 million. With just two days left in the campaign, the nonprofit is asking those in the community who are able, to please give and support their neighbors in need.

When retired Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel learned about the late Sunday shooting of a Douglas County Sheriff's sergeant, he was compelled to design, build and put up a Christmas decoration that celebrates his fellow Nevada law enforcement officers.

Esther Chapter No. 3 of Carson City and the Grand Chapter of Nevada's Order of The Eastern Star recently made donations to several charities, including Food for Thought and the Veterans Guest House.

Justice Gibbons was first elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 2002, making him the longest serving of the high court’s current seven members.

Early this year, Carson Tahoe Health began to pivot service lines and conserve personal protective equipment (PPE).

UPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Facebook page: On Dec. 20, 2020 at approximately 11:15 p.m. an officer Involved shooting occurred in Douglas County NV near Douglas Ave in Gardnerville, NV.

The incident is currently under investigations and no suspects are outstanding. The Suspect is currently being treated at the hospital for injuries. Highway 395/Gillman to Waterloo remain closed. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to please avoid the area. More information will be released when it becomes available.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will be the lead investigation agency, as protocol for officer involved shootings to have an outside agency investigate, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. There are two suspects who were in a vehicle, a male and female, who were involved in the incident. Both are in custody, said Furlong. The condition of the injured officer is unknown at this time.

A Douglas County sheriff's officer was shot and suffered serious injuries late Sunday night following an incident in Gardnerville. Two suspects are in custody, according to dispatch reports.

A cold front is expected to bring light snow showers and wind beginning late Monday night that may impact the Tuesday morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

National Wreaths Across America Day, celebrated at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Saturday, Dec. 19, honored veterans by placing wreaths on headstones and markers at over 1,200 locations throughout the U.S. and abroad to those who served our country.

In a rush to avoid an end-of-the-year reversion back to the federal government, Nevada lawmakers have signed off on a plan that will allocate roughly $207 million in federal COVID-19 pandemic relief dollars largely to equipment costs and salaries of state employees.

While most students across the country have been learning online this fall because of COVID, a group of students at Western Nevada College took advantage of an exciting hands-on scientific learning opportunity earlier this month.

That colorful fish looks pretty in that store aquarium, and you cannot help but think how much your friend or loved one might enjoy such a pet, but the Nevada Department of Wildlife is hoping you will stop and think about the animal’s future before laying down your hard-earned cash.

In other words, consider what is going to happen to that pet if it is no longer wanted.

To honor and raise funds for Nevada’s health care workers, historic Coin Press No. 1 will mint a special medallion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 19 and 26 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. in Carson City.

For the week ending December 12, initial claims for Unemployment Insurance (UI) totaled 9,027, up 244 claims, or 2.8 percent, compared to the previous week’s total of 8,783 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Carson City is facing the same problems other growing communities throughout the nation are: a lack of affordable housing which in turn is causing a gap in the workforce for important careers that require technical training.

While this year’s safe and sober celebrations may look different, Partnership Carson City, in collaboration with Carson City Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers, is encouraging students to celebrate safety and responsibly this New Year’s Eve by offering gift cards as a token of appreciation.

During a special session last night, the Carson City School District School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to offer in-person, on-campus instruction for third to sixth graders, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays. The first official day of this more traditional education model will begin Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. The district previously announced a return to 4-days-per-week, in-person learning for Pre-K to second grade students Oct. 20, 2020.
