Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

Virginia City's Historic Fourth Ward School Museum’s 3rd Annual Steppin’ Back In Time fundraising event, highlighting The Fabulous 1950’s, will be Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Join us for an exciting evening of fun as we step back to the era of the Sock Hop. Come dressed in your favorite Poodle Skirt or Denim (optional), enjoy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments and celebrate life as it was on the Comstock.

Carson City's newest writing group, We're Always Write CC Chapter, welcomes all levels of writers to join this fun group! Come get inspired to bring out the writer in you! Meetings are free with no commitment. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 1-2 p.m. at the Brewery Art Arts Center Cafe, 449 West King Street. Call Monica with questions. 775-315-1020.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." There's also a free creative event: "Community Art Card, Creating Social Circle" at Comma Coffee, Salsa dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. The public is invited to join staff for a free family day at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada on Saturday, August 31. The doors open at 10 a.m. so grab the kids and have a fun day with the family, compliments of Carson City Toyota.

Heading into Monday, August 19, 2019 and that means one thing if you're a teacher, parent or student: It's the first day of class across Carson City School District campuses. Welcome back. Make it a safe, enjoyable experience as this day will create memories that will last a lifetime. YERINGTON — Celebrate the one year anniversary of the Walker River State Recreation Area grand opening with a day full of fun, games, and educational activities. The staff at Walker River would like to thank everyone who has come out to the park this past year and look forward to many great years to come!

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 at Red’s Old 395 Grill, 10455 S. Carson Street in Carson City.

Optional no-host dinner precedes the meeting at 6:00 p.m. Anyone interested in Model T Ford cars or trucks is welcome to attend.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival, a bluegrass festival at Bowers Mansion, Celtic favorites at the BAC, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides, standup comedy at the Carson Nugget, a block party at Silver Oak Golf Course, a Boy Scouts car show at Fuji Park, "'Kutz for Kids' and more.

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

In last week’s column, I showed things really are much better now than in the past and said this week I’d provide some reasons for hope in the future.

Heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 activities abound around the capital city. There's a new group for writers that meets at the Brewery Arts Center; a salary negotiation workshop at WNC, a chautauqua and author presentations at Dangberg Historic Park. There's also the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival that will feature the Wesley Orsolic Trio during Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC, with jams to continue at Living the Good Life; there's also a real estate workshop for veterans, art showings, salsa dancing and more. Annual Women’s Retreat at Oasis Community Church, 1520 South Maine Street, Fallon, NV, 9am-3pm. 775 423-2300. Women (18+) throughout Churchill County will come together for laughter, fun, food and fellowship. The retreat includes a continental breakfast, lunch, crafts, music and a special guest speaker.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. Heading into the first day of the work week, if you're an early, early riser or are settling in for the night, you'll want to step outside at around 3 a.m. for the peak of the Perseid shower, which will be in the eastern sky. If you missed them, there will be a viewing party hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec at the Jack C. Davis Observatory at WNC beginning at midnight Tuesday morning, August 13. Otherwise, it's onward and upward into the day with a Cooperative Extension presentation, Shred Kids mountain bike camp, Red Cross sitter certification class, West Coast swing dancing and more.

Art and flowers made the perfect blend on Saturday during the 16th annual Greenhouse Garden Art Fest in Carson City.

Dozens of vendors sold different forms of art to capture the eyes of attendees while the lush greens, plants and flowers in the Greenhouse served as a comforting background.

In addition to their new outfits, C.I.R.C.L.E.S. participants’ children will receive new fun, rad haircuts from The Cutting Edge hair salon. Their new looks will then be showcased in a big makeover reveal for all to see at!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Carson City's newest creative writing group "We're Always 'Write' CC Chapter" welcomes you to share your love of writing with us! Meet fellow writers as we work on creative writing exercises in a fun, safe environment.

Our first meeting will be at the Brewery Arts Center Cafe on August 14th from 1-2 p.m.

The Brewery Arts Center welcomes Americana favorites from Lake Tahoe, The Dead Winter Carpenters, as the headline act to The Change Companies’ stage for the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series this Saturday, August 10. Acclaimed singer singer-writer Spike McGuire is the opening act.

Seventy two players from all around northern Nevada gathered at the Carson City MAC Saturday, August 3, for good play, new friendships and to raise money towards building dedicated outdoor pickleball courts in the Carson City area.
