Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There’s no real Nevada Day without the Nevada Day Parade, and there’s no parade without parade marshals.

Marshals are an integral part of the parade. They’re on the ground floor making sure that the parade entires are situated before the parade, and they make sure they flow smoothly during the parade.

Carson City Kiwanis hosts Saturday pancreatic cancer awareness run, golf tourney and bench press

Each September for the past five years, Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer. This year, to that end, they’ll be hosting the 6th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The fundraiser will offer three events to further the cause: a golf tournament hosted by the Silver Oak Golf Course, a pancreatic cancer walk/run, and a bench press championship competition.

CARSON CITY — The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, announces its exhibition, "Constellation" at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public from Sept. 16 to Dec. 10, 2019, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Pirate Pup Parade, viewing of 'Hook,' Wheeled Food and more Wednesday in Carson City

UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, the Pirate Pup Parade will be moved indoors outside of the Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. The film showing of "Hook" will be held in the BAC Performance Hall. Food Trucks will be outside in the parking lot.

Fall Harvest Golf Classic to benefit the Dayton Food Pantry

Help drive out hunger at the inaugural Fall Harvest Golf Classic! The tournament takes place Saturday, October 19th at the Dayton Valley Golf Course.

Hosted by Js’ Old Town Bistro and Duncan Golf Management, all proceeds benefit the Dayton Food Pantry, part of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.

The Dayton Food Pantry provides food to more than 500 people a month, more than half of which are children and seniors. The Pantry also provides weekend meals to more than 200 school children through its Backpack Program.

Fremont Elementary School hosts ribbon cutting unveiling new classrooms Friday

Fremont Elementary and local dignitaries hosted a Ribbon Cutting ceremony Friday, Sept. 13, to celebrate the newly added classrooms and square footage completed from construction over the summer.

The ceremony also helped kick off the school's annual Fall Festival where dozens of community partners, sponsors and the school offered information, food, a raffle with over 30 prizes, and tons of fun for students and families.

‘Barbie Bungee’ stretches minds, engineering savvy of Carson City students

CARSON CITY — As Empire Elementary School works towards becoming more STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) focused, all the students in grades K-5 participated in a school-wide project Tuesday afternoon called "Barbie Bungee." The project was designed to allow students to stretch their minds and explore their engineering savvy by applying it first-hand through an outdoor bungee-jump … err ... test.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Community Services Foundation and Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort, through Vail Resorts EpicPromise have inked an agreement for a lifetime naming right sponsorship of the planned two-story world-class climbing wall in the Douglas County Community and Senior Center in Gardnerville.
