18th 'Think Pink' breast cancer awareness event returns to Carson City's Red's Old 395 Grill

Carson Tahoe Health will celebrate its 18th annual Think Pink kick-off for breast cancer awareness on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City will once again host the event.

The event is free to attend and individuals wearing a Carson Tahoe Think Pink T-shirt, the current one or from any year, will receive free appetizers courtesy of Red’s.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office host annual Fright Night at Fairgrounds weekends in October

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is hosting their third annual “Fright at the Fairground" during the month of October. The event will be offered at the Douglas County Fairgrounds located off Pinenut Road in Gardnerville and will run every Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening through the month of October.

Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for allegedly dumping trash on road, refusing to pick it up

A 47-year-old female transient was arrested early Wednesday in the 100 block of East Telegraph Street for two counts misdemeanor littering after allegedly dumping trash from cans into the road and then refusing to pick up the litter, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report said.

Nevada Housing Division rental housing locator website gets new look, better search tools

The Nevada Housing Division will celebrate the fifth year of its rental housing locator at a relaunch party to introduce a new look and easier navigation of the NVHousingSearch.org website. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the NHD office located at 1830 College Parkway, Suite 200 in Carson City beginning at 11 a.m.

Carson City Kiwanis hosts Saturday pancreatic cancer awareness run, golf tourney and bench press

Each September for the past five years, Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer. This year, to that end, they’ll be hosting the 6th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The fundraiser will offer three events to further the cause: a golf tournament hosted by the Silver Oak Golf Course, a pancreatic cancer walk/run, and a bench press championship competition.

Seven of 10 schools in Carson City district show improvements in Nevada performance report

CARSON CITY — Seventy percent of the schools in Carson City showed improvements in the latest Star Ratings report, according to the Nevada Department of Education State. With Sunday’s release of the Nevada School Performance Framework, 7 of the 10 schools within the Carson City School District improved enough to earn a higher star ranking.

CARSON CITY — The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, announces its exhibition, "Constellation" at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public from Sept. 16 to Dec. 10, 2019, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
