CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada Development Authority is pleased to announce that Amy Miller has joined its business development team as the Business Support Specialist for the Walker River Corridor.

Notice is Hereby given that the City of Carson City will conduct a public hearing on September 12, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Community Development Conference Room A, 108 E. Proctor Street, Carson City, NV 8970 in order to discuss potential applications for funding under the next fiscal year’s (July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021) State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and to solicit additional citizen input on possible activities to be included in an application.

A Joint Operating Agreement is currently under review between the Carson City Library, the Northern Nevada Development Authority, and Adams Hub, to create and manage a “Business Retention and Expansion” program.

At the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Aug. 1, a presentation was held to discuss a possible joint contract between the three entities, for the creation of a Business Retention and Expansion program, which would be funded by the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2019 Pioneer Awards through the Northern Nevada Development Authority with the deadline to make nominations closing on Wednesday, July 31 at 11:59 p.m.

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will host “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, August 2 from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to attend.

CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Tuesday that Jim Peckham, Executive Director of Friends in Service Helping since 2009, has been named as the 2019 Pioneer of the Year. NNDA’s Pioneer of the Year award honors an individual who both personally and professionally supports and has had a significant impact on the economic development and growth of the region.

The Economic Development Association of Western Nevada, together with real estate company Mark IV Capital, announced Tuesday that a new 4,300-acre master planned commercial and industrial park is planned in Fernley.

Northern Nevada Development Authority on Friday announced its economic development service area has been expanded to include Mineral County. The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development \has designated NNDA as the regional development authority (RDA) for the county, effective July 1, 2019. Mineral County joins Nevada’s Sierra Region that also includes Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Storey County.

NV Energy both supports and participates in economic development statewide. The company’s new CEO, Doug Cannon, will discuss how the company powers what is important for its more than 1.4 million customers and businesses, as well as for the 50 million visitors who visit Nevada each year. An update on the company’s many energy initiatives, including renewables, will be provided.

DAYTON — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties hosts its farmers market in Dayton for the 10th summer. The market is Thursday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. It is co-located with Healthy Communities’ new community garden, known as the Solidarity Garden. This will offer market patrons the opportunity to join the community garden as well.

With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

With some help from the Ghost of Mark Twain, Carson City Chamber of Commerce celebrated its accomplishments for the year at their annual meeting Thursday evening at The Martin Hotel Restaurant.

Each June, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recognizes quality of life, community and economic growth achievements.

At the Chamber annual meeting on June 13, Chamber Chairman of the Board Robert Fredlund will honor seven individuals or businesses that personify what Mayor Robert Crowell is so often proud to state, “Carson City is a great place to live, work, and play.”

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development is hosting a free panel discussion next week in Reno for small businesses to learn the information they need to compete for government contracts.

Aerospace is more than airplanes, spaceships and drones. Specline Nevada will describe where the leaders in aerospace manufacturing are headed.

As of 2018, the state certified population of Carson City was 56,057. There are many studies out there showing population and many of these reports show the U.S. Census Bureau as their source and their latest estimate for 2018 showed 55,414.

Vivekananthan Yatheepan of Carson City has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Moldova on June 3 to begin training as an organizational development volunteer.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Carson City has gone blue with the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign, a national event hosted by Carson City’s Advocates to End Domestic Violence, and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada.

On Friday, Carson City residents joined together to plant pinwheels across the Nevada Legislature's lawn, in an effort to raise awareness about preventing child abuse.

“The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures all children deserve,” a spokesperson for the national event said. “We want to reinforce the notion that healthy child development serves as a foundation for both community and economic development.”

Nevada Film Office officials are heading to Los Angeles next week to pitch Nevada’s many iconic locations to executive-level film and television decision makers from Netflix, YouTube, Warner Brothers, Marvel Studios and others during AFCI Week.

LAS VEGAS/CARSON CITY, Nev. – Gov. Steve Sisolak and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) board approved performance-based initiatives for seven businesses to relocate in Nevada or expand their operations, which could create 270 new jobs.

The companies’ applications approved for initiatives represent a wide range of businesses across the state including a robotic company in Reno, a technology company in Las Vegas, and an industrial supplier of organic botanicals, spices, chili and teas in Minden.

RENO — Local and regional industries will come together as part of the University of Nevada, Reno’s inaugural cybersecurity conference from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 2 in the Joe Crowley Student Union. Participants will discuss ways to tackle the growing challenges in cybersecurity through building a collaborative and synergistic relationship between industries and academia.

The Carson City School District’s quarterly Community Professional Learning Community meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m., will focus on sustainable practices. The meeting, held inside the Carson High School Library, will be the first part of a 1.5-day Executive Sustainability Summit.

Welcome Carson City to Monday, Feb. 18 where all that's left, at least for the next couple days before the next system arrives, is the snow removal.
