Even with the stay-at-home order in place, businesses, families and youth can engage in a number of educational activities online to enhance their daily lives and help themselves, and others, through these challenging days. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, University of Nevada, Reno Extension faculty, staff and volunteers have been hard at work to bring educational workshops, programs and resources useful during this time, into Nevadans’ homes.

Nevada Housing Coalition hires Christine Hess as executive director

CARSON CIY — After an extensive executive search, the Nevada Housing Coalition Board of Directors hired Christine (Bekes) Hess as the first executive director for the statewide nonprofit.

Tolles Development Company Hires Cory Hunt as Executive Vice President

Tolles Development Company announces the hire of Cory Hunt as their Executive Vice President. Hunt was previously director of research and analysis with one of the state’s most respected fiscal and economic policy consulting firms.

“Cory brings tremendous expertise in crafting and developing partnerships, navigating permitting processes, and analyzing tax and fiscal programs,” said Par Tolles, CEO of Tolles Development Company. “These skills will be crucial within his new role and will allow us to continue realizing our vision for the success of Northern Nevada development.”

Former Reno mayor, lieutenant governor Bob Cashell dies at 81

Bob Cashell, the former longtime mayor of Reno and Nevada lieutenant governor known for his big personality, died on Tuesday. He was 81.

Jim Bauserman, a family friend, confirmed the news to The Nevada Independent. Community leaders, including current Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, offered tributes on Tuesday.

Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell delivers his last ‘State of the City’ address

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

City to return 'Brewery Arts Center' property to BAC owners, so long as all religious activity is prohibited

Carson City wins Levitt Amp Concert Series Grant for Fifth Straight Year

Lieutenant Governor to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kate Marshall, who on Jan. 7, 2019 became the 35th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Nevada. From 2007 to 2015, she served as Nevada's 21st State Treasurer.

Nevada Lore Series: Brewery Arts Center's history and latest Carson City ownership transfer

During Thursday’s Board of Supervisor’s Meeting, the Board voted on a measure to transfer ownership of the site of the Brewery Arts Center into the hands of the Brewery Arts Center themselves. For the past 40 years, the City has held ownership of the property at 449 King Street, and has been leasing the property to the organization.

The site of today’s Brewery Arts Center has gone through several changes in its time. The Carson Brewery was first built in 1860 by John Wagner, who created the brewery during the Comstock rush to wet the whistles of all those hoping to become the next gold-rush billionaire, and it became Nevada’s longest-operating brewery to date.

Nevada employment department makes key appointments for Carson City, Vegas divisions

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation on Thursday announced the appointment of two administrative positions for divisions in Carson City and Las Vegas.

Ms. Kimberly Gaa has been appointed as administrator for the agency’s Employment Security Division in Carson City and Dr. Marilyn Delmont has been appointed as administrator of the Information Development and Processing Division in Las Vegas.
