CARSON CITY — Reno artist Kate O’Hara need only to open her door and look to the mountains to find inspiration for her creations.

O’Hara’s exhibit, “Botanica Obscura,” can be seen for the next three weeks at the Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series (LXS) inside the Nevada Legislative Building in Carson City. Throughout the 2019 Legislative session, the works of six Nevada artists is being featured. O’Hara is the second of the six artists and her display will remain in place through March 15.

CARSON CITY — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada received sweatshirts for every member of their Carson City and Carson Valley locations thanks to local donors Phil and Penny Wright, longtime Carson Valley residents, NV Energy and Carson Dermatology; and new 20 winter coats for children identified as in need in Douglas County from the East Fork Professional Firefighters Association.

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:25 p.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, and three counts being in possession of a firearm while under the influence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health is pleased to announce the generous multi-year pledge of $800,000, by the Mallory Foundation to allow for expansion of Carson Tahoe’s Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center, more than doubling the center’s capacity for treatment.

Four were arrested Friday night in the area of N. Division and W. Park streets, each for suspicion of multiple felony drug violations, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, including Level III Trafficking, possession and possession with intent to sell.

Carson City's hometown roller derby team, the Carson Victory Rollers, opened 2019 with their first bout held Saturday against the Nor Cal Roller Girls inside the Carson City Community Center gymnasium.

True to their name, the Victory Rollers cruised to a 154-66 win.

Saturday's event was a doubleheader. The first bout was a scrimmage for the Junior Victory Rollers.

Carson City Firefighter-Paramedics were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 580 in Washoe Valley near the Bellevue overpass Saturday night.

The collision in the northbound travel lanes resulted in the rollover of one vehicle.

The hills around the Nevada state capital are alive with the sound of music and nature as the Carson City Symphony performs its 200th concert Sunday at the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater.

Before that, go on a treasure hunt at one of two marketplaces occurring in Carson City today, including the Flying Pig Flea Market and the Seventh Day Adventist Rummage Sale.

Making an encore appearance in downtown San Francisco Saturday, the Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band rocked the crowd in the 2019 Year of the Pig Chinese New Year Parade.

Carson Assembly No. 7 Rainbow Girls will host Painting with a Pal on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carson Lodge No. 1 of the Free and Accepted Masons, 113 E. Washington Street (at the corner of Carson Street) in Carson City.

The community is invited. Suggested age 5 and up. All proceeds will help support the girls with their community service and assembly events.

Cost is $20 per person. All art supplies and lunch are included. There will be two sessions: one at 10 a.m. and a second at 1 p.m.
