A 28-year-old Carson City man and a 26-year-old Reno man, both inmates at Carson City Jail, were arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony battery on a protected person, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Great news for Carson High School students as Librarian Ananda Campbell is making sure her library stays cutting edge.

Campbell was awarded both the Library Services and Technology Act Community Enrichment Grant from the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Carson City School District Schools Foundation Mini Grant Teacher Award to help fund Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Projects and to assist in facilitating an ever-changing CHS Senators Library Collaborative Learning area.

UPDATE 3:08PM: The following is a statement from Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes regarding the passing of Timothy Jones.
“Our hearts ache for all the families and individuals involved in the car accident in Kings Canyon. We learned yesterday from law enforcement that one of our students passed away. Throughout the day today, the administration at Carson High School has provided and will continue to provide, as needed this week, grief counseling and support for students and staff. As more is learned about a memorial service, we will pass that information along.”

Family members confirmed via social media Sunday that 16-year-old Carson High School student Timothy Jones, one of seven students involved in a Nov. 9 crash on Kings Canyon, has died.

A momentous congratulations goes out to the students who voluntarily and competitively placed in the 2017 Carson City School Board Sponsored American Citizen Essay Contest with first place at the high school level going to CHS 9th grade Honors English student Marissa Messmann, second place to CHS 12th grade College Readiness Senior English student Jessica Preston, and third place going to 9th grade Honors English student Matteas Klatt.

Three people were arrested Monday for suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon and other charges after an altercation in the 1900 block of Boeing Way, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

After a 4-0 victory against the Sacramento River Cats, the Reno Aces reclaimed their Pacific Coast League Division lead, putting them one-game up on the Fresno Grizzlies. Aces starting pitcher Ivan Pineyro took the mound looking to extend division lead against southpaw Andrew Suarez.

As back-to-school supplies start rolling out in stores, Sierra Lutheran High School’s administrative team is already gearing up for the school’s 16th school year. The school enthusiastically welcomes Dr. Tami Seddon, a Carson Valley native, as their new principal following the retirement of Reverend Juls Clausen. Dr. Seddon, a UC Davis and Stanford alumna, has been with the school since its inception as both a teacher and academic dean.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 28th annual American Century Championship is in the books, and former Major League Baseball pitcher Mark Mulder won for the third straight year, the first three-peat at the celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

With a Pacific Northern Division-leading record of 55-38, the Reno Aces looked to conclude the four-game home-stand against the El Paso Chihuahuas with a win, tying the series at 2-2. Aces starting pitcher Frank Duncan (7-5, 6.11 ERA) hoped to tack on a team-leading 8th win of the season before another four-game series against the Salt Lake Bees.

After a tough 10-4 loss to El Paso, the Aces looked to rebound in a hurry Saturday, July 15th in Greater Nevada Field. With a small sample size of outings under their belts, starting pitchers Matt Koch (Reno) and Kyle Lloyd (El Paso) took the mound hoping to break the 1-1 tie in the four-game series.

Sailors from the USS Nevada nuclear submarine were in Carson City on Sunday for tours of the Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum.

After a 4-3 comeback victory, the Reno Aces and Tacoma Rainiers faced off Friday for the second time in the four game series.

With a league leading record of 45-27, the Reno Aces continued their 8 game homestand Thursday, June 22, against the Tacoma Rainiers, an Affiliate of the MLB team, Seattle Mariners.

More than 5,000 fans poured into Greater Nevada field Sunday to watch the final game of a four game series between the Reno Aces and Las Vegas 51s. With the series 2-1 in the 51s’ favor, the Aces looked primed and ready to even the series at 2-2. Before an eleven game road trip in Tacoma, Sacramento, and Salt Lake City.

Embracing the area's manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its exhibition, "Industrial Art: Sports Edition", at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery from June 9 – September 28, 2017. CCAI will host a reception for the show on Friday, June 9, 5-7pm including a short introduction of the exhibition participants at 5:30pm. With the sun shining bright, and 7,128 in attendance at Greater Nevada Field, the Reno Aces faced off against the Las Vegas 51s for the third time in their back and forth four game series Saturday. Starting pitchers Eric Jokisch (Reno) and Steven Matz (Las Vegas, placed on assignment) took the mound in a lefty vs. lefty duel. Ready to pitch the seams off the ball, and lead their respective teams to victory.

It is that time of year again, time for the Carson High School Class of 2017 to graduate and move on toward other exciting endeavors. Many graduates will continue their education by heading up to the next level, going off to college, while some will attend a trade school, and yet others will simply begin employment in a field of their choice.
