Southwest Gas is not involved in the rate applications. The gas portion covers NV Energy's gas customers in the Reno-Sparks area.
***
NV Energy electric and gas customers in Northern Nevada may see hikes of an average of $9.84 per month in electric and $4.75 a month in natural gas coming soon.

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled three consumer sessions in June to hear public comment regarding NV Energy’s general rate applications to adjust electricity and natural gas rates in Northern Nevada.

In its applications, NV Energy proposes to increase annual revenues by $105.9 million, according to a PUCN news release.

For electric service, NV Energy requests approval to increase its annual revenues by $94.8 million and proposes to recover the increased revenues through a revised rate design that, for single-family residential customers, would increase the Basic Service Charge by $27.90 (from $16.50 to $44.40) and decrease the volumetric per-kilowatt-hour rate to collect approximately $18.06 less per month from a typical single-family residential customer using 759 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, according to the release.

Thus, for the typical residential customer’s bill, the estimated net total impact of SPPC’s proposal related to electric service is an increase of approximately $9.84 per month, the news release states.

For gas service, NV Energy requests approval to increase its annual revenues by $11.1 million and proposes to recover the increased revenues through a revised rate design that, for single-family residential customers, would increase the Basic Service Charge by $4 (from $14.00 to $18) and increase the volumetric per-therm rate to collect approximately $0.75 more per month from a typical residential customer using an average of 57 therms per month, according to the news release.

Thus, for the typical residential customer’s bill, the estimated net total impact of SPPC’s proposal is an increase of approximately $4.75 per month, the news release states.

New electric and natural gas rates would become effective Oct. 1, 2024.

Docket No. 24-02026 (electric operations) and Docket No. 24-02027 (natural gas operations) have been consolidated for hearing purposes. Check back for updates.

The line up is as follows:

June 22: Adrian + Meredith (Americana)
Adrian and Meredith have been tirelessly touring since 2015, playing over 150 energetic live shows per year across the USA and Europe. Their eclectic Americana embodies the spirit of the human story through a fusion of punk attitude, folk heart, polka flavor, and swing bounce. Reviewers praise their “barn-burner” concerts full of romantic storytelling, wry humor, and musical diversity. Their new EP recorded with members of Squirrel Nut Zippers, Punch Brothers, and others will release in 2024. Come see their “roots rock perfection!”

Opening Act: The Kilowatt Hours

June 29: Urban Renewal Project (Jazz/Hip Hop/Vintage Soul)
The Urban Renewal Project is a sixteen-piece collective known for its genre-bending original music that combines elements of jazz, hiphop and vintage soul, and for its explosive live performances that have captivated audiences from SXSW to the Java Jazz Festival. Building off the success of recent singles “Will to Survive” featuring Vic Mensa & “Don’t Ask Y” featuring Camp Lo the group is putting the finishing touches on its fourth album, set for release later this year.

Opening Act: TBA

July 6: Dennis Jones (Blues)
Dennis Jone’s feet are firmly rooted in the past, yet his heart and soul are connected to the present. He writes songs that seamlessly blend the best of both worlds, presenting a unique and contemporary style of American rock and blues. And he isn’t afraid to tackle the controversial issues of today. Dennis has written songs for other notable artists as well, including Guitar Shorty! Dennis was honored with a Jus Blues Bobby Rush Blues Entertainer
Award in Tunica, MS on August 3, 2023. He also spent three years playing guitar with The Bus Boys (the boys are back in town) and with The Zac Harmon Band, when they won first place in the 2004 Blues Music Awards Competition in Memphis TN.

Opening Act: TBA

July 13: Van Goat (Swing Punk)
Van Goat’s loud, heavy surf-rock contrasts with swing and jazz; country with groove-centered funk, making for a dynamic and lively listening experience. Nobody Cares is out now. “Back in the ’30s and ’40s, swing was a high-energy dance music that people would dance to ’til they passed out. These days, if a band starts up with the clarinets and the ride cymbals, you’ll probably start picturing your great grandpa doing the jitterbug. Oakland’s Van Goat breathes a healthy dose of punk rock into swing by stripping it down, raw and so energetic that you’ll want to upstage your granddaddy on the dance floor.” – Good Times Santa Cruz

Opening Act: TBA

July 20: Qiensave (Cumbia Urbana)
Qiensave is a Cumbia Urbana group from Salinas California with roots stretching back to Michoacán, Mexico. They create high energy dance music that has fortunately blessed them with the opportunity to travel throughout California, Arizona, Mexico, and Colombia. Qiensave recently released their sophomore album “Mujer” via ONErpm Music, which includes singles produced by world-renowned and Latin Grammy-nominated musician Eric Canales and Platinum Producer Sam Pura. Touring has given Qiensave the opportunity to share the stage with acts like Celso Piña, Grupo Kual, La Santa Cecilia, Fuerza de Tijuana, and La Septima Banda among others.

Opening Act: TBA

July 27: False Rhythms (Reggae)
False Rhythms is a 5 piece rock/reggae band founded by two brothers; Dalton and Garrett Moore from the Washoe Tribe of Gardnerville, NV. False Rhythms takes inspiration from many musical backgrounds such as rock, metal, and funk, constantly blurring lines between genres. Funk flavor comes bass lines dropped by Austin Hawkins, mind melting guitar solos are provided by lead guitarist Garrett Moore, jazzy chord progressions and powerful lyrics flow from lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dalton Moore, high energy beats and drum fills by Robbie Wheeler hold down the foundation, and it all gets brought together by psychedelic synth/keyboardist Chris Shotts.

Opening Act: TBA

Aug. 3: Big Brother & The Holding Co. (Classic Rock)
Big Brother & The Holding Company are considered, along with the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, the pioneers of the San Francisco Sound. They are recognized in the history of rock and roll as the band that launched the career of the great Janis Joplin. They are the band that recorded “Cheap Thrills”, which many consider to be the definitive record of Janis’s greatest singing. Rolling Stone Magazine listed “Cheap Thrills” as one of the greatest albums of all time, and Big Brother’s version of “Piece of My Heart” has been included in the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Library of Congress. Original members Peter Albin (bass) and Dave Getz (drums) have been playing together for 59 years and continue to bring this legendary music that they created with Janis to audiences all over the world. Darby Gould of Jefferson Starship will front the band with her soaring vocals.

Opening Act: TBA

Aug. 10: Wicked Tinkers (Celtic)
Since 1995 the Wicked Tinkers have been playing ancient rhythms and forgotten sounds. Their music isn’t typical pipe band fare. They have reimagined the music for the twenty-first century. They aim to create a sound that is both “ancient and hauntingly familiar” with use of bagpipes, tribal drums, didgeridoos, a Bronze-Age Irish horn paired with a modern, rock-and-roll energy; their music will transport you back in time and get an audience of their feet with a raw, primal, and exciting sound. The Wicked Tinkers pioneered the Tribal Celtic sound now played by several other Scottish bands around the globe. The band is beloved by kids from 1 – 100 and every show is different as they never follow a script. Come experience the Tribal Celtic sound of the Wicked Tinkers and join the party!

Opening Act: TBA

Aug. 17: Lance & Lea (Country)
Lea grew up Amish, listening to country music and singing in church. Lance grew up playing in a rock band on the Texas club scene. The two met randomly in Nashville, TN and after their first songwriting session together, formed a duo. Marked by old school country/rock influences with Texas blues guitar, storytelling lyrics, and soothing harmonies, their collaborative genius is on fire with over 500 songs written. Their music has garnered airplay in the UK, Ireland, and in Music City – Nashville Tennessee. Lance & Lea won “New Artist Of The Year” at the 2019 iHeart Radio Rocky Mountain Country Music Awards and were nominated for “Album Of The Year” at the 2020 iHeart Radio RMCMA’s

Opening Act: TBA

Aug. 24: Igor & The Red Elvises (Eastern European Surf Rock)
Igor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. As an independent band, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums, two live albums, a live concert DVD, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”, “Mail Order Bride”, “Armageddon”, “Skippy”, “Melrose Place”, “Fastlane”, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”, “VH-1 Behind the Music”, and “MTV”. Eligible homebuyers may receive $50,000 towards closing costs and down payment assistance. Grants will be awarded to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. The competition for these funds will occur across multiple states, so participants are encouraged to act quickly.

The program aims to help make homeownership, amidst rising interest rates and the increased cost of housing, a reality for qualifying middle-income families and individuals—those earning between 80.01% to 140% of the area median income in the area where the property is located. GNM consultants will follow up to gather additional information.

“Now, in its second year, we’ve seen the life-changing impact that this program can have on grant recipients in making homeownership possible,” said James Anderson, president of Greater Nevada Mortgage. “We recognize the challenges many people face when purchasing a home. This program provides a unique opportunity for working families and individuals who serve our community. We encourage those interested to apply quickly, as this is a considerable amount of money for down payment assistance, and this is a grant that doesn’t need to be paid back and isn’t a lien on the property.”

The Middle-Income Down Payment Assistance program requires eligible homebuyers to contribute a minimum of $10,000 in order to secure a $50,000 grant to assist with downpayment and closing costs. To be eligible for these funds, applicants must be a first-time homebuyer as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), fulfill income eligibility requirements, complete a homebuyer counseling program, and purchase an eligible property in Nevada, Arizona or California as their primary residence. Greater Nevada Credit Union is offering access to homebuyer counseling programs at no cost for those who apply through Greater Nevada Mortgage.

“I never thought it was ever going to be possible for us to afford to buy a home,” said Justina Yellowhair, a 2023 recipient of GNM’s Middle-Income Down Payment Assistance program. “It is such a huge accomplishment – considering where and how my husband and I grew up – to be here now and to be homeowners.”

GNM’s lending experts are available to help answer questions and assist homebuyers in navigating the purchase of their first home.
