Carson City Sheriff's Office identifies victims, provides new details into Saturday murder investigation

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the victims from the Saturday morning homicide. The deceased father is identified as Guy Perry, age 52, of Carson City.
He was killed by gunshot wounds to the upper torso. The injured daughter is identified as Cassandra Perry, age 19, also of Carson City. She suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is expected to fully recover from her wounds. As reported, the weapon used in this case was a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Sheriff’s detectives have determined the weapon used was a stolen gun.
SUMMARY:
Detectives were able to determine that the suspect, Michael Brentlinger, forced entry into the residence of Cassandra Perry shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday morning. Ms. Perry heard the sounds and immediately called her father, who resided across the street. It is believed that Mr. Guy Perry, armed with a handgun, entered the daughter’s residence shortly after Brentlinger and interceded in the attack. Mr. Perry confronted Brentlinger and was shot twice. Brentlinger then turned and fired one shot at Cassandra, striking her in the back of the head.
Cassandra Perry’s brother, Kyle Perry, had been asleep in a second bedroom. He awoke and confronted Brentlinger, wrestling for control of the weapon. Two shots were fired, but none hit Kyle. Brentlinger discharged one other shot in the home before he fled. A total of 6 shots were accounted for during the search of crime scene. Kyle Perry’s injuries were consistent with the struggle, and did not require medical treatment.
Michael Brentlinger was located Monday in south Reno by Reno Police Officers. After a brief confrontation, Brentlinger killed himself. Although Bretlinger disclosed to his father the location of his car, search efforts by ground and air could not locate it.
The investigation has concluded that no other persons of interest are being sought. The cause of this incident is believed to be a domestic violence response, as Brentlinger and Cassandra Perry were previously in a dating relationship and had resided together. That relationship had ended in November, though Brentlinger continued to return to Perry’s property. On December 5th, Brentlinger was arrested during the early morning hours for Trespassing. He bailed out of jail later the same day ($242 cash bail). On December 5th, a Temporary Protective Order was obtained and Brentlinger was served the order on December 6th at his south Carson City apartment.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office extends condolences to the friends and both families tragically impacted by this event, and applauds the rapid response provided by the Reno Police Department.
