Burglary tools found in Carson City casino hotel room of pair arrested on drug charges
A San Jose pair arrested the day after Christmas for felony suspicion of drug trafficking face additional charges of being in possession of burglary tools after Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators obtained a search warrant and found a hotel room at a casino full of electronic items.
In custody and facing new charges are Tricia Diane Lopez, 26, a pre-school teacher and Albert Eugene Carlson, 35. Each face gross misdemeanor counts of possession of burglary tools, on top of felony drug trafficking and possession charges with intent to sell.
Officers were called to a hotel casino in the 2000 block of East William Street on Saturday after security reported that the couple's room agreement had expired. The couple were in jail at the time. A search warrant of the hotel room was granted. Inside officers found numerous electronic items in boxes still wrapped with plastic on the table. Also in plain view was a blue Walmart bag that contained tools commony used for burglaries, the arrest report states.
Officers found binoculars, a radio scanner, black gloves, a knife, two BB guns, and miscellaneous tools inside a black backpack. Instead a Walmart bag officers found three full-face stocking masks, a butane lighter torch, three sets of screwdrivers, a Gerber knife and a Chicago electric rotary tool. Throughout the hotel room officers found more tools, star sets, pry bars, viewing equipment and more drugs and paraphernalia, the arrest report states.
Officers attempted to interview the couple who both said they would like to have an attorney present, the arrest report states. For the new charges, each had $2,500 added to their bail amounts. Investigators said they could not determine at this time whether any of the packaged electronic items found were stolen.
Each face felony charges of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts possession of a controlled substance, heroin and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Both also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, and two counts possession of drug paraphernalia. The bail for Lopez is $35,496. The bail for Carlson is $35,651.
The couple were arrested after a Dec. 26 traffic stop. Carson City Sheriff's deputies found a rock of methamphetamine weighing 12.5 grams, several sandwich baggies of hallucinogenic mushrooms, a small bag of heroin, marijuana, 2 glass pipes and a digital scale.
