Woman driving without a license jailed after giving cops fake name
A 21-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday following a traffic stop near the intersection of College Parkway and Sherman. Carin Elizabeth Bohannan faces a felony charge of using false identification to avoid prosecution and a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop at 10:29 p.m. because of a non-functioning tail light.
The deputy met with the driver who stated she had recently lost her license and din't have it in her possession. Bohannan provided a name and a date of birth, saying she also goes by the name Jesslynn. When the officer asked her how she spelled her name, she spelled it out as Jesslyn with one "n."
The officer asked if it was just one "n" at the end of her name. She then replied there were two "n's" at the end of her name, the arrest report states. Seeing there was a discrepancy, the officer asked Bohannan if she was being honest about her name.
The officer also informed her that it is a crime to misrepresent her identity. The woman said she understood and assured the officer that her name was the name she gave. The officer looked up the woman's name in the computer system as she stated and it returned back as not having appeared to be the subject who was stopped, the arrest report states.
The officer returned to his car. Another deputy arrived on the scene and spoke with the woman. She told the deputy she had lied about her name and gave him the correct name of Carin Bohannan. Dispatch advised the woman did not have a driver's license.
She was read the Miranda warning where she agreed to speak with the arresting officer. She said she gave him another person's identity because she knew she didn't have a driver's license and didn't want to get a ticket or her vehicle towed, according to the arrest report. She faces the felony charge of using false identification and misdemeanor driving without a license. Bail: $5,192.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man, Paul Thomas Walker Lastiri, faces a felony drug charge after being arrested Sunday, 9:25 a.m., near East Telegraph Street and North Carson Meadows.
According to the arrest report, a deputy observed two men walking north along Carson Meadows while doing routine patrol. The two men were carrying Walmart palstic bags that contained large boxes, swinging them as if they were empty.
The officer conducted a consensual stop with both men at the corner of Telegraph Street and North Carson Meadows. Both men agreed to talk with the officer, who asked them to place the bags on the ground as they spoke.
The men said the boxes contained lamps and they were walking to Walmart to exchange them. While speaking to the men one of the boxes moved in a gust of a wind, suggesting the box was empty. Knowing that a common practice among thieves is to go inside Walmart with empty bags, fill them up with merchandise, then exit without paying, the officer then asked if he could search the men for weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia, the arrest report states.
The first man provided consent and was cleared. Lastiri was facing the officer and began to step away and turn his head side-to-side as if he were looking for an exit to run. The officer instructed the man not to move and he stated he didn't want to be harassed by the cops, the arrest report states.
The officer approached him again and he stepped away, making the officer feel uneasy so he grabbed the man's right arm, which the man quickly pulled away from the officer.
The officer then detained Lastiri, placing his wrists into handcuffs. He then conducted a pat down of Lastiri for weapons and retrieved a glass smoking pipe and a small plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. He was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637.
