Carson High student undergoes chemo for brain cancer, family establishes fundraising web page
The family of Carson High School sophomore Jocelynn Gill, diagnosed last month with brain cancer, remains by her side as she undergoes chemotherapy.
The 16-year-old has been at University of California San Francisco Benioff Children's Hospital since Oct. 19, beginning chemotherapy on Oct. 28, said Amy Schreck, Jocelynn's aunt, in an email.
Jocelynn will need to stay in San Francisco for a few more weeks. If everything is progressing as expected, she will be able to go back home to Carson City, however she will need to return to San Francisco for treatments at least five days each month. Her father joined her and her mother in San Francisco, leaving her 11-year-old sister with family.
Schreck writes that this has already been a huge financial strain on the family as Jocelynn's mother has been with her and is on family medical leave from her job without pay. There will be many medical expenses throughout this ordeal as well as standard living expenses.
If anyone has anything to spare to assist with this situation, the family would be grateful. Your donation will go towards making sure Jocelynn has a home to come back to, with power and food to eat, as well as making sure she has what she needs to recover.
The family has been in touch with the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation for some assistance and support. A web page has been established through GoFundMe to help with expenses. The page is http://www.gofundme.com/funds4jocelynn.
