Woman jailed after allegedly buying $207 worth of booze on stolen credit card
A Carson City woman was jailed Thursday on felony suspicion of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card which had been reported lost from a grocery store earlier this month, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Melissa Luone Carter was arrested in the 500 block of Bath Street on the crimes that allegedly took place from Oct. 11-12. According to the arrest report, officers made contact with Carter following an investigation. She was read her Miranda rights in which she said that she started a line of credit on a card Oct. 11 with a credit card that was not issued to her but from a relative who she claims gave her permission.
According to one theft victim, a business owner, Carter ran up $207 in charges for alcoholic beverages on the credit card, which had been reported lost Oct. 10 from Smith’s on East William Street, the arrest report states.
Carter gave deputies the credit card, adding that it actually belonged to a friend of hers who gave it up as payback for a loan, according to the arrest report. She was booked on felony fraud and identity theft charges. Bail: $20,274.
In other arrests:
— A 42-year-old Carson City man, Stephen Jackson, was booked Friday, 12:55 a.m. on a felony charge of probation violation. Officers were called to the 1200 block of North Carson Street regarding a noise complaint. Jackson’s name was run through dispatch where it was learned he was on parole supervision. The agency requested the man be arrested for violation of conditions. He’s being held without bail pending a hearing.
— A 38-year-old Carson City man, Timothy Allen Webb, was arrested Wednesday, 10:13 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on felony suspicion of using an illegal gaming device. The man reportedly was using a casino player’s club card that didn’t belong to him. He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia, three hypodermic syringes, Bail: $5,000.
— A 47-year-old transient, Richard Leo Connelly, was arrested Thursday, 12:14 a.m. in the 500 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of giving officers false identification to avoid prosecution. The man gave a deputy a fake name and birthdate when he was asked, later telling the officer he thought he had a warrant for his arrest and that’s why he lied. Bail: $5,412.
— A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4:46 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Edmonds on four misdemeanor charges including domestic battery with a prior, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, officers were notified of a vehicle traveling on North Edmonds that had two passengers, a man and a woman, in which the man was punching the woman in the face and pulling her hair. It was later learned the two are married.
Officers caught up to the vehicle and made a traffic stop. As the officer was walking toward the vehicle, the man was yelling at the woman, who was crying hysterically, the arrest report states.
Officers observed her face was red and swelling on the left side. The officer asked the man to exit the vehicle, where he was placed into custody.
The suspect was told he was observed hitting the woman and pulling her hair, which constitutes domestic battery. The man denied hitting the woman. He also faces misdemeanor charges of failure to maintain a single lane of traffic, failure to turn at an intersection and a warrant issued out of Walker River Justice Court. Bail: $6,001.
— A 21-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 7:59 p.m. in the 200 block of Burton Street on a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a police officer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, officers were called to a residence regarding domestic battery. Officers spoke with a woman who was shouting profanities and not cooperating with the investigation.
At one point the woman screamed for the officer to get out of her house. The officer attempted to explain why he was there, that there was a call regarding domestic battery and that on arrival the officer observed a man standing over the woman who was on the ground.
The woman again screamed for the officer to leave and then stated she was going turn her dogs loose on the officer, and then headed for the door. Not knowing what kind of dogs the woman had, the officer shut the door. The woman then started swinging, landing punches to the officer’s chest and upper arms.
After a struggle the woman as placed into handcuffs was taken to jail where she continued to be uncooperative with jail deputies, kicking them as she was being escorted inside. Bail: $2,500.
— A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of preventing a witness from reporting a crime, and domestic battery a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The incident happened in the 1800 block of Rock Court. According to the arrest report, officers were called Oct. 22 to a residence in reference to a domestic battery. They spoke with the victim who said she and her husband had been drinking and arguing.
The argument escalated and the man allegedly threw the woman onto the bed. The woman went to call 911 and the man allegedly threw the landline phone against the wall, breaking it.
The woman said she ran outside and used a cell phone to call 911. Officers spoke with the man who said he and his wife had been arguing during the night.
He told officers it was just an argument and nothing else happened. He was asked about the phone he took from her. The man said it didn’t matter because there wasn’t a battery in the phone. He was arrested on two charges. Bail: $13,137.
— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 12:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Edmonds Drive on misdemeanor probation warrant, issued Sept. 17, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail $3,000.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
